Will the Writer's Strike Unplug 'BTY'?

Exactly what happened with Grounded for Life. They ordered 20 episodes for the first season, but only filmed 15, so they aired the other 5 during season 2.

Does anyone what FOX has done in a situation like this in the past? They could air it into summer, or they could cut the orders like others of you have said. I would rather see the show air into the summer if anything instead of having a shorter season.

They are in uncharted territory. All of the other strikes have happened at the end of the year or before the season has started. This one is the first one that's going to happen right in the middle of the season. NBC has already ordered an alternate ending for Heroes so that it could be a season finale and that will air in December.

So, at this point, there's no knowing what will happen. I'm sure a strike will happen, no matter how long it is. I just hope FOX has a gameplan in their mind.

I read that the last writer's strike lasted 22 weeks. I think this one could be a long one too.

When was the last strike? The last big one I can remember that really hurt things were the fall of 1988. It delayed newcomers like Roseanne and Murphy Brown (for 6 weeks), plus new seasons of Full House, The Wonder Years (for about 8 weeks I believe, giving it a cut season from 24 episodes to 18), Who's the Boss, The Cosby Show, and others.

It was a bad one, I remember. Then one, I believe in 1980 or 1981 was also bad. I just hope this thing begins and goes away quickly, With the fall season already off to a bad start, I have no doubt most shows, like Back to You, will be affected.

1980 was the actors strike. I remember watching the Emmy Awards that summer and hardly any actors showed up. lol

Other writers strikes were the 1985 strike which lasted 2 weeks(minimal impact) and 1981 which was a three-month strike(minor impact, early end to the season, with a few holdover episodes into the next season). All of these began in March, so obviously the situation is much different here.

Three strikes in 7 years in the 80's and then almost 20 years without one.

I'm very concerned this will be like 1988. The reasons for the strike are extremely similar to then.

Oh and I'm sure FOX has a plan. They have the powerhouse named Idol premiering in 2 1/2 months, and they have several other reality shows and midseason shows with hype. Likely they are in the best position of all the networks.

I think the actors union has already said they won't cross the picket line and are in support of the writers so who's going to star in these non union shows?

I just hope it isn't that bad. I remember 1988 so clearly, and it was bad. Almost every show on every network premiered late. At least this time we got actual premieres on time. So it's really the first strike to occur in the middle of the season.
