Does anybody know the name of the song that Thelma was suppose to be teaching JJ how to dance on in the episode "The Check-up"? It sounds like Parliment Funkadelic, but I'm not sure.

So here is some quick info on that song: "Steam Heat" is a popular song written by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. The song was published in 1954. The best-known recording was done by Patti Page. It was released by Mercury Records as catalog number 70380, and first entered the Billboard chart on May 26,1954, lasting 9 weeks and peaking at #8. The song was first introduced in the musical, The Pajama Game. It was later used as part of the Tony Award winning musical Fosse. |

Thanks for that info, Irene. I guess it was a song more for a musical than for radio play. |

I never liked the girls singing that song in that episode. I could do without that kind of song. It so reminds me of maybe the Huxtables doing something like that.

Speaking of "Steam Heat", I have the POINTER Sisters' version on one of their greatest hits CDs. This is when the group was still mainly a novelty/nostalgia act - way before songs like "Fire" and "Slow Hand" rocketed them to mainstream fame.

Yes - it's a lot of fun. The gals on Good Times basically just sang the choruses, but the Pointers did all the verses and it sounds great!

It's well worth a listen, Irene. The CD I have it on is called Yes We Can Can: The Best of the Blue Thumb Recordings. I believe these are all album length and not single length cuts. How Long runs almost 8 minutes! The whole CD is very enjoyable. Here is a track listing:
Yes We Can Can Wang Dang Doodle Fairytale Going Down Slowly How Long (Betcha' Gotta Chick On The Side) You Gotta Believe Cloudburst Jada Black Coffee Steam Heat Salt Peanuts Having A Party Love In Them There Hills Don't It Drive You Crazy |

Let me add, although this song was NEVER feature on GT, I can't help but think of Thelma when I hear it:
Bernadette by The Four Tops. Bernadette Stanis, get it? I swear, ever since I can recall, I hear that song and it makes me think of her. I think it has to do with the fact that I always loved that for a girl's name. Also, when I would hear that song (back in the day) I never knew of a female that had that name other than Ms. Stanis. Let me say, I loved the name so much that when I made my Confirmation and we had to choose a saint as our saint name, I chose the name Bernadette. Not because of Ms. Stanis though.

Hey Irene, have you listened to the Pointer Sisters' version of "Steam Heat" yet? I think you'd like it.
