I'm just curious but why don't you like Laura?

Why should I? Steve kissed the ground she walked on, and she still treated him the dirt on that ground. She was a selfish, shallow, ugly bitch. Nothing to like about her. And having Steve not only love her, but even MARRY her, just doesn't make any sense to me.

Laura and her family were mean to Steve in the earlier episodes. There is no denying that. All except mother Winslow she knew from the start that Steve was a winner. They should have brought her back in the later seasons just to tell Laura I told you so. I love the episode when Steve was taking Laura to her cheerleading competition and they stayed in the motel and he told her to sleep in the bathtub!!!. I think that was the only time when he stood up for himself.

Harriet wasn't mean usually either. Neither were Jody and Richie. But Eddy and Laura despised him because he wasn't popular, even though they appreciated what he did sometimes. And Carl should just have had a little more patience with him.

No Harriet wasn't mean to him he just made her angry at times. It was Eddie and Laura that called him names like geek, dweeb, nerd boy. I know that it had to hurt his feelings but he never stopped being himself and liking himself. Richie loved him. He called him "Uncle Steve". I loved Steve in the early years before the show started to go sci-fi. He was adorable. Carl had a problem with patience. He reminded me of Ralph Kramden. Ralph had zero patience with Norton.

But at least, they eventually started caring about him, even in front of other people! By 7th season, Steve was even allowed to move in with them, when his parents went to Russia. I still don't think they should have set him up with Laura though.

I agree. I preferred him during the first season and throughout the next few. He just came off to me as some overgrown nerdy kid. However, Jaleel White will always be my childhood hero.

Eddie, Laura and Carl just say they don't want to be bothered with Steve but over time and deep down they cared about him and were his friends. Eddie even admitted in one episode that when he really thinks about it Steve is one of his best friends when that faternity guy told him not to hang out with him anymore. Carl admitted to Steve he was like a son in the 9th season and they even had touching moments before that. Now yes Laura was mean to him at the times, but you can see that their friendship was building, and in my opinion they killed that chemistry by putting them together, they had chemistry as just friends not as a couple.

When people grow up, they change. Laura grew up and started to realize Steve was a great guy, and started to have feelings for him. Anyways, I voted for Steve in Seasons 5-7. I thought those were Steve's best years on the show. In the early years, he was your typical sitcom geek. Wore a pocket protector, ate weird foods, had weird pets. Then as time went on he became more diverse, and we got to see a lot more of him, and know a lot more about his personal life. Especially when he moved in with the Winslows in Season 7. The last 2 seasons, I didn't like the charachter as much, because #1 he was out of high school, and was starting to seem less like a nerd, but more like a straight up weirdo. and #2 I thought it was ridiculous that he made Stephan a totally seperate person. Also his inventions got wackier and less believeable by then too. In my opinion Family Matters should have ended after the 7th Season.

Early years - he wasn't nearly as irritating and he wasn't in every scene. He was a supporting character who occasionally took the spotlight - and it should've stayed that way.

And still, Laura didn't give Steve a chance before he stopped wearing his suspendors and dropped his voice.
