i really hate the all weekend marathons of shows like THE JEFFERSONS--- i mean, the show airs all the time anyway? and u can get like 1/2 of it retail>???? i prefer the old days when they had marathons for stuff like CHICO AND THE MAN or THEME WEEKENDS with common themes in the shows

medical shows do not tend to age as well ratings wise
there doesnt seem to be much interest now E/R can be a hit in reruns but if you go back to the 70s or beyond, there is just not much interest anymore sad to say.... |

Well, the incredible strides in medicine may have something to do with that. Some of the health crises that fueled those early shows are not significant concerns today. I remember especially in the late '60s and through the '70s, there was a strong tendency toward disease of the week - some of that drama just isn't compelling any longer.
I wonder how shows like House and ER will really stand up to the next generation? |

You don't get a patient everyday with a never before seen mystery illness, nurses don't always fall inlove with their patients, and the staff aren't always involved in a love triangle with each other (my job would be a heck of a lot more interesting if all that were true )J |

its sort of like how the original Dragnet seems simple nowadays
it just hasnt aged as well i love the medical shows, but to be honest when i watch Marcus Welby or Dr Kildare, they seem realllllllllllll dated |

It's a shame that so many of the black and white series, that we used to be able to see on Nick are not even available on DVD let alone on television again. I really enjoyed some classics like
Dobie Gillis My 3 Sons Car 54 Patty Duke and Dennis the Menace Hopefully I will be able to find some of these somewhere. |
