OUT OF SCHOOL SUSPENSION

I got suspended in grade 5 for telling a teacher to "screw off". One day. But, I wasn't aloud to watch t.v., go on the computer for two days. It sucked. I haven't been suspended since (I've got a couple in- school suspensions though). Nothing this year though.

And the reason I got a in- school suspension for two days last year? I read a poem called "Howl" by Allen Ginsberg in front of the class and it has swearing and talk of sex and stuff. They got pretty pissed at that. Something about "**** and balls" offends them.

I agree, Modfather, it is a great poem. I was reading it late last night, but didn't finish it...I went to bed instead, so I'll probably finish reading it later on. I love that first line, "I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical, naked..."

I'm currently reading a biography of Allen Ginsberg by Barry Miles. Have you read this, Modfather? I'm finding it very interesting. Currently in GinsbergLand, the year is 1945, and he's 19, already friends with Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs, and all set to meet Neal Cassady in 1946.

I can understand why some people would be offended by some of the language in the poem, but I think it was pretty harsh of you to get an in-school suspension for it. I mean, Allen is now a pretty much respected poet, isn't he?
