I'm glad someone else voted for "Some of My Best Friends Are Rhodas!" It was such a well handled episode that dealt with two subjects at the same time: how it feels to think you're loosing your best bud (Rhoda feels left out,) and the issue of snobbery/elitism/racism (gosh I don't want to get on a soapbox here!LOL) The great thing about this episode is that it handled the second subject without an overblown "Great Final Speech On the Issue of the Day scene!" Mary, once she found out where Joanne stood, simply dismissed the lady out of her life and made it clear that whatever friendship may have blossomed was over. End of scene, life goes on. We've all dealt with the issue at some time or other, and hey, you realize it happens and you go on (without a Great Speech to dramatize your point!) Mary, You Go Girl! :-)

I gotta vote too for the episode, "Rhoda The Beautiful." (hope I don't come off as a copy-cat here!) I never understood why Rhoda always put herself down as unattractive. As a guy, even when I was a kid, I always thought she was a great-looking woman. This episode puts a lot into perspective. She figured if she did the put-downs of herself first, nobody would be able to beat her to it. I realy could relate to that, because in high school, I was a bit chubby, with an overbite and felt no girl would go for me. I later found out there were some who liked me even in spite of the less-than-perfect appearance. Another thing I read was that when Valerie Harper came to read for the part, they felt she was too good-looking to play the part written for a "schlump." Then one of the writers realized they would play on the aspect that many women feel they are unattractive when in fact they aren't. I think that applies to many, guy or gal. At any rate, Rhoda shines in this episode! I don't get into mushy sentimentallity, but at the end, when Rhoda recounts the feeling of winning and realizing she was indeed beautiful (as we all knew all along) I remember almost getting teary-eyed! My macho exterior was shot down in flames! But for Rhoda, it was worth it!

"Today I Am a Ma'am". I've had some bad dates in my time so I could TOTALLY relate to Mary and Rhoda's embarrassment. I've known a few "Howard Arnells" in my time. *shudders* Lot of laughs in this one. I also like the episode where everyone was snowed in at WJM on Election Night.
