Hello,
I was wondering if you had any more news about the reunion. I'm sure we're all very interested in hearing more about it. Thanks for your time.

That would be really disappointing if this reunion is a hoax. Hopefully nlearfan is just keeping the details hush hush.

Smile To answer your questions . . .

Sorry I haven't given you details. I just moved and haven't posted in a month. For those of you who wanted to know how I talk to the agents, I am writing a book called Dear Norman. It is about Norman Lear, his sitcoms, and their effects on American culture. I try to interview the casts from these shows for the book. I've talked to Bill Macy, Rue McClanahan, Marla Gibbs, Franklin Cover, and Lou Richards (of the short lived show, Gloria). For more details, visit my website www.dear-norman.com (which needs to be updated - that was my original idea, but now I am focusing on politics). I have been very busy writing that, so thats why I havent posted new info on this. If this publisher that I am writing it for likes it, then I hope the book will be on the shelves in late 2006, although I am not making promises. That is what I hope.

The agent of BernNadette Stanis told me that a contract was signed during the middle of July for a Good Times reunion. Now you know how things take a while, and so I havent heard anything in the last month. I was assured by Stanis's people that I would be the first to know of the details when it comes to New York.

IT IS VERY EARLY. Dates have not even been set up. I am going to their hotel in New York City, where I will meet the cast (except for Janet Jackson, who will only be there when the tour goes to Chicago).

I would not make this up. It bothers me that some people out there figure I made this up. I have better things to do than spread false rumors. I am very, very serious about what I am doing. I will provide you with more information once I have it. After all, I want to share it.

By the way, today I spoke with Eric Monte, creator of Good Times, who is currently answering questions for me via email. He will be in there.

I apologize for doubting you. Could you do everybody a favor and ask Monte, Norman Lear and anybody else associated with Good Times if it was a spinoff or not? Believe me, you'd be doing a HUGE service to us ALL!

Brian -

No problem. Dont worry about it.

I can help you out. In my research, I found a 1974 Washington Post article that has a quote from Lear saying it was NOT a spinoff.

Here's the quote:

February 8, 1974
Tom Shales
The Washington Post

'Good Times' is Coming and It's All in the Family

Norman Lear: "In the first place, this is not really a 'spin-off' from the 'Maude' show. I got the idea for this show 2 1/2 years ago, before there ever was a Maude, from Michael Evans, who plays Lionel on "All in the Family". We'd never seen a black family on the tube and it sounded like a good idea. It's taken two years to develop it; we went through 30 drafts of the story for the first episode."

I will also ask Monte what he thinks. He is supposed to be sending me an email tomorrow. By the way, check out Monte's website on www.awpublisher.com. He really bashes the writers, and praises John Amos. The guy also smoked a lot of pot in his life.

If you have any other questions, let me know and I will try to get them answered.

I just read your article about Good Times on your website and in it you said Norman Lear wanted a spinoff of Florida Evans.

Hi, Sean,
I'm so glad this reunion is not a hoax, and I also apologize for doubting you. Sorry if this is redundant, but one question I think everyone wants to know is: What is the cast doing now? From reading the posts on these boards, there is a lot of curiosity about what Ralph Carter has been up to. Thanks for your time.

Aaron

P.S. Here's to the long overdue Good Times Reunion! :-)
