"Palmerstown USA" was an hour-long series that was a collaberation of Norman Lear & Alex Haley ("Roots"). It was about 2 families in the 1930s, one white and one black.

Jonelle Allen also guested in the second season episode, "Hot Dogs". Harris sometimes called Bellevue Hospital "Fantasy Island".

Here's a cool tidbit from "Horse Thief", from Season 2. There is a bicentennial celebration in NYC, which of course means an extra hectic day for the 12th. Yemana is on a phone call with a guy who had been mugged. Yemana asks if he was carrying cash or traveler's checks. His next line is, "Shame on you. Don't you pay any attention to Karl Malden?" That is an obvious nod to another ABC detective series, "The Streets of San Francisco", which was still in production at the time.

for those who may not know; Karl Malden used to do commercials in the 70s and 80s for American Express Travelers Checks; and he'd always say "DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT THEM"!

Thank you Treky - that makes more sense! I never knew that he did those commercials, they were before my time.

I haven't thought about that show in years. It was actually pretty good.
