“So can I bring my gun and take this bastard out?” Jinny asked Kate.

Kate shook her head and threw a bulletproof vest to her. “No, and you’re sure you want to do this?”

“Of course!” Jinny exclaimed. “That’s my best friend in there!”
“Excuse me?” Magda retorted.

Jinny frowned. “Uh, my second best friend?” she lied and turned back to Kate. “Anyway, I’m going in; how am I going to kill him? I’m not afraid to rid him of his life, Kate, I’ll do it.”

Kate nodded. “I know you can, but I have a better plan.” she waited until she had the vest on and explained the plan. “So you understand perfectly?”

“Yep, he’s going down, you can count on me,” Jinny replied, mainly to Nate.

Nate hugged her. “Thanks Jin, and be careful.”

Jinny nodded. “I’ll bring your CD back to ya,” she promised him.

Nate nodded. “I hope so.”

Kate looked at her watch. “ ‘Kay, let’s get this show on the road,” she said and spoke into the megaphone. “Larry, I have Inspector Exstead coming your way. I want you to glance out the window to tell me you see her. Get a good look at her, Larry.”

Larry could hear her through the broken glassed windows. He glanced out one of them and saw the cop with her hands in the air, walking that way. “Yeah, I see her!” he shouted and back away, careful of the snipers.

Jinny walked up close to the side of the office but continued to the
back of it.

“Where’s she going?!” he shouted to Kate. “Where’s that bitch going?!”

Kate replied. “Inspector Exstead has to go around to where the
switches are to turn the air on; don’t worry Larry, she’ll have it ready in no time,” she explained to him.

Nate paced back and forth. “This isn’t going to work, this isn’t going to work,” he kept muttering to herself.

“Nate, shut up!” Kate hissed.

Larry looked at CD, who shrugged. He yelled out the window. “I don’t like this Kate! What if she’s got a weapon?!”

Kate shook her head. “Larry, you just saw her, you know she doesn’t have anything!”

Larry shook his head. “I don’t like this,” he muttered again.

Kate called out from her location, “Larry, we got your car ready for ya!”

Larry was busy looking at Kate through the no glass window to see Jinny sneeking by one of the small back windows. She stopped long enough to catch CD’s eye and winked at her a sign of encouragement.

CD nodded at her nervously, knowing something was about to go down.

Larry screamed out the window. “I don’t care about the car, I want to know where that cop is at!” he shouted.

CD grimaced, and Jinny pulled her body back away from the window, so he couldn’t see her.

“How are they going to get a clean shot?” Nate hissed into Kate’s ear.

“There’s no glass in the windows, you idiot,” Magda muttered.

“Magda, stop being so ****ing annoying!” Raina shouted.

Nate looked at her wide-eyed, never guessing to hear THAT word come out of her mouth. “Couldn’t agree with ya more, Raina,” he commented, but now understood how the plan would work.

Kate said, “Larry, she’s around back, I’ve already told you that. I want you to glance out the window and tell me if this car is good enough for you. We’re rolling it out right now!” she exclaimed and had a cop drive it out in front of the office. “Take a look at it!”

Larry went to the window. “Yeah I see it, okay?! Now I want that policewoman to come back!” he shouted.

Kate egged him on. “Is the car what you’re looking for?” she asked him.

He continued to stand by the window.

Jinny peeked back in the window, gave the signal, and hit the ground.

A gunshot echoed off the storage buildings. Two men dressed in full protectant suits opened the door to the office and barged in, firing off two more shots.

Nate looked on, knowing CD had been hit with the first one. He kicked the cop car he had been leaning on for the moment and made a dent in the driver’s side of it. He walked away from the crowd and began to cry.

CD looked up and saw Larry on the ground, dead. The two police
officers were lurking over him, checking for a pulse. CD turned her
head away and buried herself into the corner, crying silently.

Jinny sat up and looked around. She had to get inside that office, she
decided and ran to the front door. The first thing she saw was the dead
perp and blood oozing everywhere. She looked around for CD and saw
her crouched in the corner. “CD,” she whispered.

CD looked up and saw Jinny. She turned back around and put her face
in the wall again. “No, Jin, no, don’t look at me,” she replied, crying
even more.

Jinny went to her and put her arms around her. “Shhh, CD, it’s okay
now,” she replied and started unbuckling the belt around CD’s throat.

CD shook her head and bawled. “No, it’s not, get me outta these!” she
exclaimed and shook her wrists.

Jinny nodded and got out a key for the cuffs. As soon as they were off,
Jinny wrapped CD into her arms and held her tightly.

CD shuddered and grabbed onto her even stronger. “Will you take me
home?” she asked, tears and more mascara running down her cheeks.
“I don’t want to work anymore today.”

Jinny grinned. “Of course I will,” she replied. “I don’t think Nate would
let you work anyway.”

CD smiled. “How is he? Is he alright? He didn’t worry too much, did
he?” she asked Jinny worriedly.

Jin shook her head. “Nah, he’s grace under pressure,” she grinned and
helped her up.

“Liar,” CD replied, and they both laughed.

Jinny steadied CD from falling when they got back out into the
sunshine.

“It’s so bright,” CD commented and blinked her eyes several times.

Jinny nodded and stopped her. “Wait, you don’t need to go over there
to all those cops with your boobs hangin out!” she teased her and
buttoned up the front of her shirt.

CD smiled. “Thanks, Jin, that was a close one!” she giggled.

“Yeah, those guys over there would be going wild!” Jinny agreed and
helped her walk over to where Kate, Mag, and Raina were standing
with everyone else.

Kate drew in a sigh of relief when she saw her. “Oh, thank you God,”
she murmured under her breath.

CD let go of Jinny’s hands long enough to bury herself in Kate’s arms.
Kate held onto her tightly, never wanting to let her ‘daughter’ out of
her sight again. “Welcome back, sweetie,” Kate commented and kissed
her cheek.

CD cried as Kate rocked her, crying herself. “Thank you for getting me
out of there alive, Kate,” CD whispered.

“I wouldn’t have had it any other way, Candace,” Kate promised her.

CD burrowed herself in closer. “Thank you so much,” she replied again,
breaking away to give her a peck on the cheek. She looked around,
hugging Magda and Raina. “Where’s Nate at? Did he leave?” he asked
worriedly.

Magda pointed over to a hunched over figure by a cop car. “He went
over there.”

“And you didn’t make sure he was alright?!” CD exclaimed.

Magda shook her head. “Uh, no, last time I checked he’s not my
responsibility,” she muttered.

“Magda, shut up,” Jinny commented.

“Excuse me?!”

Raina shushed them both. “CD, he wanted to be alone; he thinks you’re
gone, so maybe you should be the one that talks to him first.”

CD nodded and walked quietly over to him.

Nate was heaving and crying silently with his hands over his face.

CD bent down slowly to get to his eye level. She placed her hand softly
against his cheek. “Hey, crybaby, why are you on the ground when
some hot momma wants you to put your arms around her and never let
go?”

CD bent down slowly to get to his eye level. She placed her hand softly against his cheek. “Hey, crybaby, why are you on the ground when some hot momma wants you to put your arms around her and never let go?”

Nate looked up, astonished to see his partner still alive and walking for that matter. “C..C....C...” he stuttered and stood up.

She laughed. “Yes, that’s the first letter in my name,” she teased him and opened up her arms, tears flowing steadily down her face again.

“My baby!” he shouted and picked her up and swung her around. He then stopped and stared at her, looking intently into her eyes. “Oh my gosh, it really is you,” he stated.

She nodded. “And it really is you, Nate,” she smiled.

He kissed her cheek and pulled her into his big arms again. “Oh, baby, I thought you were gone. I thought I was never going to see you again,” he admitted and started to tear up again.

CD nodded. “I know, I thought the same thing,” she concurred and pulled away, looking into his eyes deeply. “I just remembered that I had an unpaid tab that I had to reimburse someone for, and that was the reason that kept me from passing out,” she avowed to him.

He grinned. “Really? You thought of me?”

She nodded. “Who else did you think I would think of? Besides Brad Pitt of course,” she teased him.

He laughed and kissed her lips. “I love you so much, Candace.”

She smiled. “I love you more.”

He shook his head. “Impossible, baby,” he said and kissed her once more.

She grinned and put her arms around his neck. “Honey, don’t get mad at me anytime soon, okay?”

He frowned. “CD, I don’t think I can get mad at you for the rest of my life, let alone anytime soon. Why?” he asked her curiously.

“He ate your chocolate,” she said sadly. “The candy bars that I keep in my purse to bribe you not to stay mad at me,” she told him, and fresh tears sprung to her eyes.

“Aw, CD!” he exclaimed and smiled. “YOU’RE the only Candy I’ll be
needing for the rest of my life,” he said and took her hand.

“So you’re saying that you’re never going to eat candy bars again?” she asked him with a raised eyebrow.

“Oh, gosh, of course not!” he exclaimed. “We’ll probably have to stop at the gas station on the way home to stock up on more! I just didn’t want you to think that that was the reason I wanted you out safely!”

She laughed. “I didn’t think that,” she stated and placed herself in his arms again. “Can we go home now?”

He nodded. “Yes, definitely,” he replied. “I’ll go get the car,” he replied and stopped. “Wait, I can’t.”

“Why not?” she asked him.

“I can’t go anywhere without you,” he explained.
