When The Actress Has No Range.......

Jennifer Aniston is, by most accounts, a genuinely likable person, professionally reliable, and one of the most recognizable faces in the history of American television. She has also been doing essentially the same thing on screen for thirty years, and the industry has rewarded her so consistently for it that the question of whether or not she's actually good at acting has become almost impolite to ask. Almost. You know how we do things over here. The Jennifer Lopez video I made a while back established what no range looks like when the performer is aware enough of her limitations to at least occupy different genres. Aniston's case is more specific and in some ways more instructive, because her lane is narrower, her self-awareness about it appears lower, and the machinery propping it up is considerably more powerful.

I think it might be because she didn't have any significant roles before Friends, and Friends is what launched her career. I do think though that some of her roles diverged from Rachel Green, so I don't think it's 100% correct to say she has no range as an actress.
