Her and Fred interactions on sanford were much funnier because she looked worst than esther. Which made fred jokes so much funnier when he was around her

Oddly enough Cathy Cooper did also appear as Esther's church friend in Aunt Esther Meets Her Son episode (below link). She don't appear as mean or ugly in S&S episode as she did in Sanford TV show. And I wouldn't have guessed that is the same person in both TV shows until you mentioned her name and did a bit of research.

Lawanda Page who played Aunt Esther was also a good friend of Fox. They toured together and Fox suggested Lawanda for the role. However it almost did not happen. Lawanda was a comedian and had trouble acting. The scenes were not working and the network was going to let her go. It was Fox that told the network to give him time with her. Fox would spend time with her privately and taught her how to act. After sometime it worked and she was great in the role. She was fairly big so not sure jokes about King Kong Godzilla would land with someone else. Its also very hard to imagine anyone else in that role than Lawanda.
