The Circleville Writer: Less Bizarre Than it Appears

people are over complicating the case...we're told that the town was subject to 1000s of letters, i mean it's called "the circieville writer" meaning that it seems to be some major event where the whole town got letters, but theres never been any trace of them...

why aren't we privy to these letters? why didn't UM interview the jones family who got letters saying bla bla bla, the smiths? the reynolds family? the clarks, the whoever?!

they don't exist. it's a lie.

people bizarrely skip the fact that mary and the super were accused of having an affair, marys husband dies in very strange circumstances, and then mary ends up with the super!

rational thinking would say that this whole episode with her husband being murdered and it begining with the accusations would and should have made her kinda sickened by the whole thing, yet she ends up the super!

the fact that nobody wants to accept the very likely possibilty that this was some plan to get rid of ron so she could with the super... i dunno!

wasn't mary obsessed with the plots from noir films? sounds very 1940s noir to me..

Just because they say “writer” doesn’t mean there’s no multiple ones. I feel that (because of all the writer said they know and knew) it was multiple people. Reportedly, the writer knew Mary’s employee number, they knew who were pedophiles and all kinds of town rumors.

I do feel the crime of Ron’s death smells of the super and Mary, but I don’t think they wrote the letters because why expose themselves??

because it was the perfect bluff, you'd said, it, you'd never think it was them... mary giliespe was obsessed with the plots of film noir...

the letters create the image of a third person, someone else, a writer...

mary and the super were having an affair, when ron was out of the way, they ended up together, getting rid of ron allowed them to be together.

the "writer" or the idea that there was a writer, allowed this to happen.

My issue with them being the letter writers is why involve her own daughter and why set up a booby trap on herself??

I’m with you though on the super being behind Ron’s death and he was likely the one on the phone that night

Didn't realize there was a 2nd thread still going on here.

1. Dwight Radcliff requested any/all copies of the mystery letters. My friend, whom I 100% trust said he & his office staff turned in the letters they had got, threatening to blow up his fuel/oil company for selling fuel to Westfall. Him and his office staff had reviewed the letters and handed them over to the sheriff (This was late 90s / early 00s). The estimate I heard locally was thousands of letters were sent, starting in the late 70s ending roughly around the early 2000s. I'm very much in the mass-hysteria camp when it comes to Circleville/Pickaway county, with multiple writers.

2. As a local, media-connected guy, the general position around Circleville is the multiple-writer theory.

3. Pretty sure Mary is still alive - She tries to keep a low profile, but this story continually shows up on true crime / reddit, and keeps the thoughts alive. Gordon Massey died quite some time ago, even though this story is HUGE nationally, alot of locals involved want to let sleeping dogs lie. This isn't as big of a local legend/mystery as some others are, IE the Mary Cook disappearance case concerns locals more than this one, by far.

remember that the booby trap didn't work, remember that the bobby trap just happened to have pauls gun with a comically bad job of scratching off the serial number, which linked it back to him.

i've read various things that say that mary giliseppe was obsessed with film noir pliots, i've watched more than my fair share of 1940s film noir and this whole thing is very noir!

it's actually very smart, again why did mary end up with the super? i have a finance, we've been together for years, if some loon accused me of having an affair and i wasn't, my fiance died because of it, i can't think of anything more insane than getting with the person i was falsely accused of having an affair with...the whole thing would make be feel sick... yet mary did.

mary and the super were having an affair from the get go, she wants to be with the super and leave ron, surely a divorce wouldn't give her the financial benefits a dead ron would...

so noir obsessed mary and the super invent a third character "the circleville writer" who accuses them of having an affair, i mean you've said it yourself, "why would someone do that?" exactly, it's the perfect bluff.. it's noir! nobody accuses themselves of having an affair right? that would be nuts, and thats why you don't suspect them. bingo.

the letters and the phonecalls push ron to the limit, he grabs his gun and his lured to his death, this frees up mary and the super to be together. part 1 is done.

now mary hated paul, thats a fact, so who can she blame the circleville writer on and get him put in jail? paui! she gets us gun, does a comically bad job with the serial number, on purpose, on a booby trap that was never going to go off, mary finds it, ron goes to jail. 2 for 2. beautiful.

mary and the super walk off into the sunset, and you're left loving the mystery, yet thinking it would be too nuts for someone to accuse themselves of doing it.

would have made a great 1947 noir, sterling hayden as the super and vernoica lake as mary.

what i've never understood is how we're presented with the idea that there were thousands of letters that were sent all over town, i mean in the case of "the watcher" who sent letters to one specific family after they bought a home, it's not called the "westfield writer"

yet be it robert stack who i think said "thousands of letters that menaced the TOWN, Wikipedia, podcasts... we're told these letters were everywhere and 1000s...

but where are they? wheres the letters to the smith family accusing one of them of cheating on his SATs? Wheres the ones to the joneses accusing them of whatever?

why are the only letters we are privy to just about the gilisepe family? it seemingly begins and ends with them, right?

i mean we don't even have one, not ONE other letter!?

because they don't exist. it's all within one family.
