Why did people enjoy Barbra Streisand movies?

Why I think Barbra Streisand wanted to add acting to her music career was because basically I think she wanted to have a second hobby when she wasn't recording albums. But the one and only movie of Barbra Streisand that my mom likes "as I mentioned" is The Way We Were and that movie made Barbra Streisand bigger as a movie actress but how her movies like The Prince Of Tides and The Mirror Has Two Faces became successes in the 90's i'll never know. I guess Barbra was trying to copy Bette Midler as both a singer and actress
