"Saving Hope" Set for Fifth and Final Season at ION Television

It's the end of the road for the Erica Durance-starring medical drama "Saving Hope".

The upcoming fifth season, comprising 18 episodes to start shooting Nov. 1 in Toronto, will be the final season. "After 85 episodes, season five will be our last," Durance told the series' fans in a video message posted on Twitter.

"We look forward to celebrating our fifth and final season with you," she added. In all, 85 episodes of "Saving Hope" have aired since the drama debuted in 2012 on CTV in Canada, the originating broadcaster, and NBC.

The Canadian drama in 2014 found a new U.S. home with ION Television.

"Saving Hope is a series that has resonated with viewers since it first premiered in 2012, and we're honored to deliver an emotionally charged and beautifully crafted final season," Corrie Coe, senior vp, independent production at CTV-parent Bell Media, said Tuesday in a statement.

Picking up after the season-four finale, where a vengeful Tom Crenshaw (Travis Milne) appeared at the Hope Zion Hospital Fellowship Awards and fired a shot at Alex (Durance) and Charlie (Michael Shanks), season five of Saving Hope will see the Hope Zion staff thrust into turmoil.

As Alex faces a big decision, her fellow doctors deal with new challenges as changes come to Hope Zion that will not only affect the livelihood of the hospital, but also its doctors and everything they hold dear. The series from Ilana Frank's ICF Films and Entertainment One earlier received an order for another 18 episodes from ION and CTV, without any indication that the fifth would be the final season.

The fifth season shoot sees Durance returning as Dr. Alex Reid and co-star Shanks as Dr. Charlie Harris. The series is executive produced by Frank and John Morayniss and co-executive produced by Linda Pope, Trish Williams, Noelle Carbone, and Patrick Tarr.
