I had not watched Quincy since I was a kid. It was on some channel recently and saw the interesting premise. I knew he was the medical examiner and had the power to solve crimes. But the episode I saw had him on the street, interviewing and chasing people, almost a police detective. I guess that was part of the appeal of the show.
Today not sure that would work because people would call out how unrealistic that role would be. A police officer cannot play medical examiner and a medical examiner cannot be police detective. They are separate roles.
Someone will have to remind me, did Quincy have a police background?

He was also a prison negotiator when the inmates took over a prison. He also collected evidence from the street many times instead of trained detectives. He was a one man crime solving show.
