Question Question for those that do their own grocery shopping

Do any of you actually read the nutritional info? My Dr. jumped all over me today because my blood sugar was 425. I have been trying to avoid sugar but it seems like every darn thing in the store is laden with that or high fructose corn syrup and I've been told to avoid both. I know most of the products that contain these but I was surprised to find out that baked Lays chips, wheat thins & Ritz crackers contain one or the other. Prior to today, I was never much of a reader of the products I buy but I will be from now on.

Yeah, I read for HFCS too. I hate that stuff so much. It's in ketchup.

I look at the calorie info and the fat content too.

I do read the labels, but not every single item. I usually will check the fat and calorie content. I'm sure that I eat way too much salt and sugar, but my doctor is awesome and I know that she would tell me if it was over the top! God, food today is so bad... meaning, that you can't eat hardly anything! I went on a diet once where you could only have... get this... 25 grams (I think, although that sounds much too low) of carbs a day. I go to Curves for Women and they have a weight loss plan with three phases. Phase I was the low carb thing. You are only supposed to be on Phase I for about three weeks, and then you gradually increase your carbs. I coulnd't believe it when I found out that broccolli of all things has carbs!
Oh and about the weight loss plan... I was actually proud of myself for sticking with it for the three weeks... and then I blew it. I am a pasta addict, so that was pure torture for me! But I did end up losing a little weight, so I may try it again!

Andrea

Yes we gotta read it now!

There is so much garbage in our food Charlie,I think they purposely are trying to hurt people!

I cant believe how much stuff now has LACTIC ACID in it.. (EVEN ORGANIC STUFF)

Lactic acid causes me problems... Its naturally made in our system,WE DONT NEED MORE!!

I dont really like HFCS but its much better than SUCRALOSE which is lab made garbage!!

One time I had a drink that has SUCRALOSE in it and my stomach ached like crazy the next day!

No.. Its a top priority to check ingredients now.. They are not on our side.. They want to hurt us and cause pain!!

Yes, I'm particularly interested in sodium content.

For instance, many salad dressings are hign in salt. But if you do enough comparing, you can find some that are reasonable, esp. in the refrigerated section.

Yes but I find the lower the salt, the worse it tastes..

I like finding stuff Stevie like it was before they started ruining our food.. (Before the 90s)

The best thing to do is only go to the perimeters of the store. Only buy Diary, fruit, vegetables and , meat. Nothing in the middle aisle. But it is hard for so many temptations in the middle aisle. Also we lived for convenience. My grandmother made her pudding and stood over the stove, Now we just buy it in Snack Pac cups. I wish you good luck in changing your diet.
