Barbara Acklin did it in 1968, and one year later it was done as an instrumental. The instrumental had the biggest success, under a different title. I’m sure it’s on YouTube; look for “Soulful Strut” by Young-Holt Unlimited.

I hope that sending people on a music search hasn't been too much of a chore. I always think of "Breakout" first as far as the hits of Swing Out Sister.

The lyrics I quoted lack the "Yes I am, yes I am" refrains in the background. Those added something I liked to the song.

I'm a Veronica Cartwright fan as you may have guessed. She talked in recent years about how Fabian's tongue got more than a little ambitious when his character kissed hers on Daniel Boone. But while she remembered that transgression well, what she didn't realize until recently was that the kiss was never used in the show's final edit.

Thanks for the link. I finally checked and the song made number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

They had another song that made number 40 but it's a safe bet it got little airplay on the radio.

For some reason, the disambiguation at the Wikipedia site refers to Inserts as a 1974 film, while the entry itself and IMDb do both say 1975 (and earliest release: Nov. '75). Veronica was born in April 1949, and the film's story was "written in 1972." It might be a little difficult to ascertain exactly how old she was at the time of filming; 24 may be very accurate.
