I figured this case would be right up UM fans alley. For those of you who don't know about this case, Elisa Lam was a young Canadian woman on vacation in the U.S. She was staying at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angles, on Jan 31, 2013, Miss Lam was scheduled to check out of the Cecil Hotel. When her family did not hear from her, the police were called in but no one was able to find her. On Feb 14th, the police released an surveillance video of Miss Lam that was taken on Feb 1st. The video is extremely creepy and bizarre, in the video it seems as if she is hiding from someone (I've added the video below).
On Feb 19th, after complaints from guests about odd tasting water and low water pressure, a maintenance man found Lam's body in the Hotel's water tank. The corner ruled her death an accident, significant by her having a bipolar disorder. Some odd things about Lam's death include some unexplained factors. For instance, Lam would've need a key and a passcode to gain access to the roof (where the tank was located), Lam would've also needed a ladder to gain access to the water tanks. Plus, police searched the roof before her body was found, but did notice anything unusual. This case has me torn, on one hand, Miss Lam was mentally ill and that could explain her odd behavior in the elevator, but that doesn't explain how she got on the roof and into the tank. Either a Hotel employee killed her and placed her body in the tank, or the Hotel was negligent and lied about how one is able to get on the roof, after all, Miss Lam did not have they or passcode that they claim is needed to get up there. What do you think happened? |

This case has been discussed in other threads most notably this one
http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/...d.php?t=318996 It hasn't been active for some time, I don't think. But some people have posted stuff and links to other articles I'm pretty sure. This is pretty interesting case. I won't go so far as to say there was some kind of supernatural occurrence or that there is more to this story than the official report. She was mentally ill and I think what we're seeing in the video is the manifestation of her illness. As for her untimely death, it sounds hard to believe that she made it to the roof of the hotel and climbed into a water tank. But take into the fact that there are numerous people employed by the hotel. It wouldn't be a stretch to theorize that a worker who had a key and a pass code would go to the roof to possibly have a smoke. Just like it wouldn't be a stretch that the same worker got called back into the hotel to take care of something and didn't close the door all the way. That is just one way it could be possible for her to access the roof. Other ways, that are completely plausible are that the door didn't close right, she convinced a worker to unlock it for her, the door had a defect, etc. I haven't heard anything in the official report about the door being defective or anything of that nature. All I've heard from the report is how hard it was to access the roof itself from investigators and staff at the hotel itself. That's not to say for liability purposes, that the hotel is playing CYA to avoid a lawsuit and have to answer questions on how a mentally ill woman was able to access the roof and water tank during a lawsuit. That's just my opinion though. |

As crude as it sounds, she had metal health problems and had stopped taking her medication, this explains it. She stopped taking her meds which made her paranoid, my theory is she had stopped taking her meds and had certain fears and delusions, she was seeing things that weren't there, and this explains her behaviour in the elevator, she gets freaked out and tries to hide from what she believes shes seeing, this has her hide in the water tank. people doubted this was possibile, then a cop himself got in and closed the tank, and he was bigger obviously than elisa, and sadly she died there. what naturally influences peoples opinion is the hotels colorful past, 100 years or whatever of bad things happening in one of LAs worse places, this has people looking for a darker, crazier explaination.. theres a little bit of a perfect storm between a hotel with a reputation, the parents especially at first not wanting to tell us everything about elisas true problems, surely the hotel not overly keen on telling us they had left doors open and peoples natural desire to what to see something more mysterious... |
