Default Why was the 1980's version of Sale Of The Century popular?

I have never figured out why they remade Sale Of The Century in the 80's and how it became so popular? The first time I saw an episode of Sale Of The Century's 80's version was with my mom and aunt when USA used to air reruns of Sale Of The Century and my mom and I found the gameplay confusing and hard to figure out and we were stuck watching it because my aunt was a game show fan. I think the reason why Sale Of The Century became popular in the 80's was because Sale Of The Century was the beginning of shopping themed games and with game shows becoming popular in the 1980's this new version of Sale Of The Century seemed to be a perfect fit. Another thing about this 80's version of Sale Of The Century was that they copied Wheel Of Fortune's theme weeks and theme weeks of Sale Of The Century became popular too but some of the theme weeks were weird and odd. The only theme week of Sale Of The Century's 80's version that my mom and I saw was the 1986 True Romance Week and we thought True Romance was a new game show and what did True Romance have to do with Sale Of The Century in the first place? Was it due to Valentine's Day 1986? I do think Sale Of The Century should be revived in a new version because not only was it popular but it seems to be another Al Howard created game show that has been overlooked besides Al Howard's most famous game show Supermarket Sweep and a reboot of Sale Of The Century would work marvelously in my eyes

Why I think Sale Of The Century became popular in the 80's was because I think they wanted to make it get huge ratings. But it shocks me that Sale Of The Century has not been thought of in game shows to reboot. Because I think a reboot would fit nicely on ABC with Joy Behar as hostess

I watched both the original Jack Kelly-Joe Garagiola (from NYC) and Jim Perry versions and thought both were entertaining and amusing.

Joy Behar is 82 years old. I think she's probably happy to just sit at The View table and complain.

Late to the party…

$OT˘ was huge in Australia in the late 1970s, and it apparently was retooled to make it glitzy in the USA.

However, as much as I enjoyed the Kelly version, only because I didn’t know any better at age 12 or so, I never could get into the 80s version. They ended every game with a Speed Round, which, frankly, should have been employed for the entire game. Jim Perry’s little trivia/anecdotes slowed down a game where players wanted to earn money.

But that’s just me. The thing lasted 6 years.

cd

P.S. Joy Behar?!
