Default On Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime currently has seasons 4-11 of THE DANNY THOMAS SHOW. The page mistakenly says that Season 1 and 2 are there, but they clearly are not. Even so, the bulk of the series is viewable, and the picture is pristine. Hoping new people will discover the series this way.

Hard to know where the masters for seasons 1 thru 3 are, but the last time they were seen on TV was NBC daytime years ago. Some of the episodes have made the rounds on various public domain home video sets.

I think Filmrise has the rights to the series now, and they did release season 4 on DVD a few years ago. Seasons 7 thru 11 have never been on home video.

There are DVD sets for Season 4, Season 5, and Season 6. The first two look pristine, the third is quite grainy (it was released in the early 2000s and apparently nothing was done to restore the picture quality). Most of the seasons from 4 onward are also available on YouTube.

Yep, I noticed the mistake too. Being a life-long fan of this show I was glad when Prime acquired it about a year ago. Seasons 1-3 are in the public domain and years ago I found some in a bargain-store and they looked so awful I threw them out. They have never been digitized which is fine with me as I saw them all when I was a kid on the NBC daytime reruns.

It's no fun for me to watch a show if the picture is awful. Good picture quality/restoration is a must for me.

Same here! I can't stand grainy or unsharp quality. When COZI-TV aired the show a few years back they blew up the picture to 16X9 and it looked amazing! Now they're only showing it in its original format, the old-fashioned square.

Like Howard, I remember seeing seasons 1 thru 3 on NBC reruns years ago. I'm a big fan of the show, but those seasons -- not so much. I think I liked the later cast better--notably Marjorie Lord. Danny is long gone, but he probably left instructions that those episodes are to stay in the vault. Whatever old films are still "out there" and any PD DVDs made from them, may be all that's left.

I have all three DVD sets--the one thing I remember is that season 5 was really subpar, in my view. They didn't even bother to have any intro. to each episode, and on top of that, the episodes were syndication length.

Last time I saw them, I was impressed with season 6--full length episodes, if I recall correctly.

And, with Amazon Prime, seasons 10 and 11 are full-length episodes, too.

When it comes to seasons 7 thru 9, I'm generally happy with my homemade DVDs taken from MeTV ("Make Room for Daddy" syndication) many years ago. They are slightly more complete than Cozi TV airings.

In an ideal world, I'd like to see the later seasons as they were shown on CBS TV in primetime, on the original airings. That's never happened and probably never will.

In an ideal world, there would be a box set of the entire series.
