Default Since both shows never dealt with serious topics, are they both equally entertaining?

Jeffersons and Sanford and Son?

I think the Jeffersons was a little bit more fun to watch because it didn't have a loud crazy character like Aunt Esther.lol Damm she was a Nut

I always liked the Jeffersons better. I thought it was more entertaining, plus I watch it more.

I think TJ is better because S&S sometimes tried to be serious, but it came across as the show having DID or something...

I have never ever ever seen a serious episode of Sanford and Son-lol When was S&S ever serious?

Not serious episodes, but just little moments. There was one episode where Fred was feeling particularly sad about Elizabeth being dead and they had this scene where he sang this song and then it just slowly faded to black.

Here you go again, Solomon. You always ask the same type of questions. Then you recycle them. I remember you asked this a while back. Your answer was then Sanford and Son because your reason was that Fred was funny in every scene and George was funny in the presence of Florence.

You have strange dislikes and likes for characters. Aunt Esther may have been "One diminsional", but she was a very exciting character to watch. don't give a show a disadvantage because of her. She was supposed to be loud and crazy. I never got tired of seeing Esther. But, on the other hand, Florence stopped being funny in later years.

To answer your question, yes, they were both equally entertaining. Who cares about serious topics, it is ok to have them once in a while. I am going to give the edge to Sanford and Son. it didn't last 10 years like the Jeffersons and it took place in a junkyard and not a deluxe apartment in the sky, but Redd Foxx was just creative with his jokes. He could make the lamest character standout by being in that scene with him. Both shows got weak towards the end, but most shows do. Plus, the Jeffersons had a very weak last 4 years.

Even though this is on your other thread, why compare Good Times and Welcome Back, Kotter? You can't compare those 2. Head of the Class would be more of comparison with Kotter and Cosby Show and Good Times.

Sanford & Son got very repetitive. It was basically the same jokes over and over. I always thought that The Jeffersons was much more original, with stronger writing, and a better cast. The Jeffersons is one of my top 20 favorite shows of all time, S&S just made my top 100. I still like S&S a lot, but it pales in comparison to The Jeffersons.

In 1975, TV Guide said the character Fred Sanford was "One Dimesional" and acually liked the Spinoff, "Grady" a lot better-lol

Fred Sanford was one dimensional.
I don't know if "Grady" is any better, but the backdoor pilot episode on S&S is funny as hell.

No characters on S&S had any depth. They were all basically cartoons.

That's what Brian Damage's Favorite TV Guide Critic was saying in 75, he said that The cast that revolved around Grady on his spinoff all added something to the show. Not just as you just said Cartoons-lol

Sanford and Son is not one-diminsional, Hey Retro, it is time to stop comparing these Norman Lear shows with one another, don't you think? It is getting old now.

Welcome Back Kotter wasn't a NL show. Wen I compare shows I was just think 1970's Sitcoms.

I know Welcome Back, Kotter wasn't a Lear show. It was a James Komack show.
I am talking about this Sanford and Son vs. The Jeffersons thing. You've asked for comparisons from these shows before. As well with other Lear shows, you just flipped them. I am not telling you what to post, but it seems like you are asking the same questions over and over, that's all.
