Francis Lindquist, played by Roger Bowen, "The Arsonist," S2E6. Shoots a candy machine because it wouldn't give him a Butterfinger.
Charlie Prevette, played by Peter Hobbs, "The Strike: Part 1," S3E21. Holds up a liquor store when the police force stages a sickout, and is really mad when detectives pick him up anyway. Mitchell Warner, played by Phillip Sterling, "The Spy," S5E15. Laid off CIA man creates a disturbance at the unemployment office. Fred Bauer, played by J.J. Barry*, "Fog," S6E22. Arrested breaking into a Christian Science reading room on a foggy night. Wanda LaMear, played by Florence Halop, "Stress Analyzer," S8E5. Assaults her assumed romantic rival with a blast from an apartment building fire hose. *Often plays Arthur Duncan, who assaults the defenseless. |

Going through the show's guest actors list it's really amazing the ones that have been on the The Bob Newhart Show.
Here's just some of my favorite perps. --Jay Gerber Mr. Craig / Howard Fuller /Lloyd Edelson / Howard Gab... (4 episodes, 1976-1981 Plays the angry man to perfection (frustrated building the Christmas gift toy, mad at what he perceives as garbage on TV...). ---Jack Dodson (Howard Sprague - TAGS) Henry St. Martin / Mr. Vogel /Mr. Franklin (4 episodes, 1975-1980) Arrested for soliciting a prostitute during the bicentennial celebration. Great line "Want to buy a button... how much ...$60." --Ivor Francis (Dark Shadows) Mr. Unger / Dr. Otto Travis /Professor Henry McDowell /... (5 episodes, 1976-1982) Terrific playing intellectuals and professor types. --Ray Stewart Darryl Driscoll (6 episodes, 1975-1982) and Jack DeLeon Marty Morrison (8 episodes, 1975-1982) So many big laughs. Just watching Marty take his gloves off one finger at a time cracks me up. ---Kay Medford (The Dean Martin Show) Lila Wakeman / Irene Schuman / Mrs. Mitzi Kamen (3 episodes, 1978-1980) Deadpan straight faced terrific one-liners as the Ma & Pa porn shop owners. --Paula Shaw (TBNS) Paula Capshaw(3 episodes, 1976-1977) Hooker --Michael Lombard Kenneth Pryor / Joseph M. Loftis / Walter Elkins / Stanf... (4 episodes, 1978-1982) Brilliant as the stock broker turned street beggar. --Oliver Clark (TBNS) Vern Bidell / Carl Ebling /Charles Yusick / Dr. Richard ... (6 episodes, 1975-1982) Uses his Mr Heard character when he brings a gun to get his brother to break out of the precinct jail. Then the two brothers take the precinct hostage. ---Peter Hobbs Phillip Brauer / Charlie Prevette / Roy McManus (7 episodes, 1977-1980) I really enjoy his work on the series. Usually plays a lunatic out of control madman. Totally opposite of his straight laced school principal, or PTA member on TAGS or MRFD. |

Dodson and Francis bored me to tears just a few years before, as Howard Sprague and Mr. Dragen on Room 222. Shockingly funnier on Barney Miller. |
