ranked #63 out of 65 shows. The closest Sitcom that was just as bad was NBC's Girl with something Extra starring Sally Fields that finished #59 out of 65 shows.
Partridge Family went against All in the Family on Saturday Nights. Even though the show finished near the bottom every week, the time slot was never changed and the show aired every saturday until December when it would be placed on Hiatus until January |

ABC's 'Bewitched' couldn't survive against 'AITF' either, in its last season (1971-72). It was kind of ridiculous for ABC to schedule it there after seven seasons as a weeknight program, but I guess the network was no longer invested in the show, knowing Liz Montgomery had already made up her mind she wasn't returning for a ninth season, and let the network know before S8 started production. So they let it die a slow death against the #1 comedy, AITF.
For 1972-73, ABC scheduled 'The Paul Lynde Show' (also produced by William Asher) in it's slot against AITF. That show died a slow death, lasting one season (25 episodes was a season back then). Then comes 1973-74, the fourth season of TPF, and like Liz Montgomery did two years earlier, star David Cassidy tells ABC this would be his last season with the show, right before season 4 goes into production. Like 'Bewitched', I suspect they were no longer invested in the show and let it die a slow, lingering death against AITF. |
