Family Ties and Growing Pains weren't soap operas, but Andrew Keaton and Chrissy Seaver were examples of Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome . When Andrew Keaton was a baby, there was nothing they could do with him except have the older characters carry him around while they said there lines . When they aged him a few years, he was able to carry on a conversation with the other characters, and he could be more entertaining . It was the same thing with Chrissy Seaver on Growing Pains .

The way I remember it, Chrissy Snow's mother got sick, so Chrissy went back home to take care of her and make sure she was all right . In real life, Suzanne Somers was hopelessly, permanently fired, so Chrissy had to be replaced .

In the case of Judy Winslow, it was the exact same thing that happened to Chuck Cunningham . She was dropped from the show, never to be heard from again .

Most long-running shows have inconsistencies over time. My guess is that new writers are brought in, who may or may not know the history of the show's storylines and characters.

And while you'd think that Garry Marshall, or others who'd been with the show for many years would remember every detail about what had happened but apparently they didn't.

Most of the inconsistencies I can just shrug off, but to eliminate a character like Chuck wholesale and pretend as though he never existed?

That's a stretch for me.

Lillian Bronson as Mrs. Nussbaum (1902–1995)
Yes, Lillian Bronson was the original Grandma Nussbaum in 1975, with Frances Bay taking over the role in 1982.

Most shows have a good run of 3-5 years if they're lucky.

By the time season 11 rolled around, Happy Days was running on fumes. They'd exhausted storyline potential, were dealing with weak replacement and side characters, and Henry Winkler was pushing 40 in real life.

I don't care how good the writers may have been, there are only so many stories they could come up with for this group of characters.

I've said it many times before and I'll say it again, Happy Days should have ended when Ron Howard and Donny Most left. It was never the same after they left.

I understand that actors want to work and that they want/need the show to go on, but it watered down what was once a great show.

What’s weird is Laverne and Shirley were in the late 1967 or 1968 in their final year, but HD was still in about 1964 in its final year and it ran one season longer than LandS.
