Production No. 16164 - "Beaver, the Sheep Dog"
At school, Beaver makes a disparaging remark about Shirley's hair, and she calls him a sheepdog, since his hair falls down over his forehead. At home, Beaver looks for sympathy from June, and receives it; from Wally, just another slur. Next day, he comes home in a foul mood, for which Wally derides him; he runs out, and buys some hairspray. Later, he slathers that on and shows up at the dinner table with his hair plastered down. Everyone tries to act nonchalant, until Wally busts out laughing; Beaver leaves. Later, as he sulks in his room, Ward tries to reassure him he's normal. Still later, Eddie shows up and, after finding out the problem, gives Beaver a bunch of insults to lob at Shirley. Beaver tries that, and she ends up crying; Beaver is ashamed. He writes a note to her, apologizing and trying for a truce. Production No. 16165 - "Wally's Car Accident" Wally borrows Ward's new car to escort Shirley to a dance. Afterward, Lumpy needs a push, and, after a push with Ward's car, guided by Eddie, a slight accident occurs off-camera, damaging Ward's car. While Ward and June are out of town, Eddie and Lumpy offer to chip in and get Ward's car repaired. After that's done, Wally's parents arrive home. Lumpy calls, Ward answers--Lumpy, thinking it's Wally, asks a question about the repair. Ward lectures Wally. Production No. 16166 - "Beaver, the Hero" A football catch and touchdown by receiver Beaver results in a lot of newfound attention for Beaver. Ward worries it might go to his heard, and reminds June that lots of boys catch footballs every day. Ward's worries prove to be correct, and an overconfident Beaver skips football practice--resulting in a call from the coach--suspending Beaver from the team. Production No. 16167 - "The Party Spoiler" Wally's throwing a party, and does not invite Beaver, telling June he's too young. Gilbert strikes again, this time urging Beaver to rig the party with gags. Beaver does so. Wally relents and eventually asks Beaver to the party, but there is no time for Beaver to rertieve all his gags. The gags work, and Beaver admits his deed. Thoughts on any of these episodes? |
