Did Jason Bateman and Valerie Harper not get along on The Hogan Family?

I heard a story from my mom that Jason Bateman and Valerie Harper did not get along with each other on The Hogan Family and I would like to know if this was true? What my mom told me was that Valerie Harper was jealous of the attention Jason Bateman was getting from The Hogan Family directors and cast and Jason was the main reason Valerie Harper quit The Hogan Family and got replaced by Sandy Duncan. Did you ever hear this story?

I don’t think that’s the main reason why she left. Valerie was known for wanting full control of a show. She had it on ‘Rhoda’, she didn’t get it on ‘Valarie’. Could Bateman have been a part of it, maybe. He’s one of the ‘great teen actors’ of all time and still a top talent. He also was known to have trouble with co-star’s and people on sets during this era. The beef between him and Ricky Schroeder was legendary. He also made it seem like verbal abuse was ‘ok’ when Jessica Walter expressed she didn’t like it coming from Jeffery Tambor on ‘Arrested Development’!
