As far as local criminals go, Charles Starkweather and then the few that Unsolved Mysteries has highlighted are familiar to me. Before Sunday though, I never heard of Leslie Arnold. He killed his parents in 1958, was sent up to the state pen and then escaped in 1967 - and hasn't been seen since.
An intrepid reporter from the local paper is doing an in-depth story on him/his story over the next few days which I thought would be of some interest here. Thank you so much for sharing! I can't believe there haven't been any replies. This is a very interesting story of which I was previously unaware.

Not a problem! Despite the notoriety, it's incredible how it's been able to fly under the radar all this time!

Echoing the other posters...yes, that's a good one and thanks for posting.
It looks like this guy got lucky based on where he committed the murders and the size and caliber -- or lack thereof -- of the local papers. The friend who drove the escapees to the bus terminal sounds like he would have caved decades earlier...if not on the spot...if he had merely been pushed by an aggressive investigative reporter. Instead it was the snooze patrol. The Brazilian document is a fascinating add, along with the search by inmate number. |

Regarding the Bradford Bishop case, who really knows for sure that it was he who bought the hammer? In my mind he's an international spy who was taken out of commission by the government, and all of the confusing details such as burning the bodies etc. were done to mislead other investigators who might be showing up. It also seems certain to me that more than one killer was needed, to carry out such a task in a single night!
