Default Son of Beloved All in the Family Star Chased Valerie Bertinelli on One Day At A Time

Now that’s a good clickbait title, no?

Anyways, let’s get to the article

>>> The son of a beloved All in the Family star spent years chasing Valerie Bertinelli’s character on One Day at a Time.

John Putch is Jean Stapleton's (Edith Bunker) only son from her marriage to William H. Putch. He has one sister, Pamela.

Putch played Bob Morton on the CBS series. His character had an unrequited love for Barbara Cooper and his storyline spanned several seasons.

His efforts to win her affection away from her boyfriend Cliff (Scott Colomby), were futile, despite his good-guy persona. Barbara would eventually show jealousy when Bob found love, highlighting the show's expertise at demonstrating typical adolescent relationship struggles.

The character eventually went to college and returned for the episode "Girl With a Past." He told Barbara he was engaged, but his fiancée reportedly had a prior reputation, forcing Bob to explain her past.

Putch discussed the role on the podcast Ian Talks Comedy. "Bob was a very identifiable character," he explained. "I think once they put me on, they brought me back cause I got a laugh."

"I clearly fit into that role and they saw that. I became the Bob Morton character."

He concluded, "Once I got going, I was on twice a season. That ran for about six years."

"It was a nice time. I learned a lot there. It was shot like a soap opera on videotape."<<<

The whole article, even though I posted most of it

He was a sweet lovable guy though. Didn't come across as creepy or stalkerish. More like a friend of the family type guy that really wished he could have gotten further romantically with Barbara but knew she only thought of him as a family friend and was cool with that.
