In this fourth season episode of LITB, Beaver buys a book for his father entitled, “I Became a Millionaire in Twelve Months,” in the hope that Ward will become a millionaire himself.
While Ward is very doubtful that the book is of any real value and worth, Ward assures Beaver that he will read the book and put it in an honored spot in his library. Unfortunately, after Ward asks June to take care of the book for him, June places the book in the “cookie drawer” as she answers the phone in the kitchen. Beaver later finds the book (which he paid $2.98 for) in the cookie drawer, covered with crumbs and chocolate chips. Beaver, quite understandably, is very upset and hurt to find the book there. However, after a talk with Ward, Beaver learns from his dad, that you cannot always believe what is written in a book. As usual, Ward provided his young son with both practical and perspicacious advice. Yet, I think that June was extremely careless and flippant in leaving Beaver’s well-intentioned gift to Ward in the cookie drawer. And, I expected to see June apologize to Beaver for her hasty and thoughtless act before the episode concluded. But, no apology was forthcoming from the usually caring and tactful June Cleaver. Do you think that the LITB writers were remiss in not having June apologize to her son for her careless handling of Beaver’s gift to Ward? I think that they were remiss in not having June do a heartfelt “mea culpa” to her young and sensitive son. |

Did Ward tell June to put it in the library or not? I don't remember so I'm asking.

I think that Ward just asked June take care of the book without specifically mentioning the library. Still, June should have not carelessly placed Beaver’s present for Ward in that cookie drawer. Knowing how much Beaver wanted his father to read the book, June should have taken better care of the book.

Sigh. Growing up, we never had so many cookies that we needed a whole drawer.

I think Beaver told Ward, from his perch in the tree, that he found the book in that drawer.
Here's what Ward should have said to that: "Son, I had the book out at the table, and your mother and I were talking about it. I'm sorry it ended up in the drawer, but I didn't put it there. Cone on down and let's find out what happened." Or, in a way it would have never been written: "Son, your mother must have put it there. Come on down, and let's go give her what for." |

Can you imagine how “well-stocked” the cookie drawer in the Rutherford household must have been with both Lumpy and Fred (two very healthy eaters, obviously) looking for a snack?
And, don’t get me started on how incredibly “well-stocked” the cookie drawer in the Mondello household must have been with both Larry and his father there, on the rare occasions when Mr. Mondello was actually home from one of his business trips to Cincinnati. |

It certainly looked like Mrs. Mondello hit the cookie drawer, too.

Can you imagine the Mondello family in 2026? The entire family would be likely trying Weight Watchers, Ozempic, Dr. Stillman’s Water Diet, Gastric Bypass Surgery, Lap-Band Surgery, etc., etc. |

Did the Mondellos have apple trees in the backyard for Larry?

Not much going on in this episode that a kid would be interested in |

Maybe if they had Beaver fall out of the tree, and Mr. Gus took him to the ER in his fire engine...

If itinerant circus worker Mr. Jeff had knocked on the front door of the auxiliary fire house that Mr. Gus was stationed at, do you think that Mr. Jeff would have gotten past that front door like he did at the kitchen entrance to the Cleaver residence or would Mr. Gus have told the amiable hobo to hit the road?
