This show-within-a-show was so inventive, it holds up 40 years later. It would take another decade and a half for Showtime to invest big in a slate of original series. This early effort from Garry Shandling set a great, creatively adventurous tone. From the Aug. 11, 1987, edition of Daily Variety Well deserved. https://variety.com/gallery/tv-ads-r...ndling081187w/
