Alan Alda pays touching tribute to "M.A.S.H." co-star Wayne Rogers

Alan Alda remembered his "M.A.S.H." co-star Wayne Rogers with a touching post on Twitter on Friday.

Rogers died Thursday in Los Angeles of complications from pneumonia at age 82.

The two starred together on the 1970s series, with Rogers portraying Trapper John McIntyre alongside Alda's Hawkeye Pierce.

Alda, 79, tweeted Friday: "He was smart, funny, curious and dedicated. We made a pact to give MASH all we had and it bonded us. I loved Wayne. I'll miss him very much."

"M.A.S.H." aired on CBS from 1972-1983, but Rogers' stint lasted from just 1972-1975. Trapper John and Hawkeye Pierce were two skilled doctors on the show who were known for pulling pranks.
Beautiful tribute. Thank you for posting this, Sonny. Nice to hear that they liked each other, despite their differences in Politics.

Very sad to hear about Wayne Rogers dying, I really liked him as Trapper on M.A.S.H. And I liked him on his sitcom House Calls too. I thought he and Lynn Redgrave worked very well together. Then they replaced her with Sharon Gless. While I liked Sharon Gless on House Calls I always thought it was never as good as when Lynn Redgrave was on the show. I think Rogers and Redgrave had better chemistry together.

Sad

Not only a great actor but also a very smart person. Especially when it came to financial matters. Wayne Rogers

I recall them making IBM episodes together about 20 years ago so it's good to hear they reconciled even though Mr. Rogers parted company from the show itself on strained terms to say the least.

The last thing I saw Wayne Rogers in was some CNN money show where he was a panelist about something (forget) and Wayne just blew his top I think at a female commentator about something and it was sort of funny and pathetic at the same time. He could be found on YouTube somewhere.

Rogers, who hailed from Alabama, is best known for playing the role of Captain "Trapper" John McIntyre in the classic television series M*A*S*H from 1972-1975. He also had recurring roles in City of Angels, House Calls, and Murder, She Wrote.

Aside from his work in television, Rogers was also a regular panel member on the Fox News Channel stock investment television program Cashin' In, thanks to a hugely successful career as an investor, real estate developer, and money manager. He was also the head of Wayne Rogers & Co., a stock trading investment corporation.

Prior to becoming an actor, Rogers served in the United Stated Navy. He also had a history degree from Princeton University.

Rogers received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2005.

The actor is survived by his wife, Amy, and his children Bill and Laura from his first marriage to actress Mitzi McWhorter. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Alexander, Daniel, William and Anais.
Wayne Rogers having come from Alabama did sometimes give him more touches of Duke, who was from the Deep South also, rather than Trapper, who (I think) was from around Boston.

This is why I (and others) had the theory that the television version of Trapper John was a combination of both T.J. and Duke.
