An easy jump in thread for new members?

A Yankees board I have bookmarked has a pinned ‘New members check in here’ thread, an easy place for someone new to make their first post and say hi. Could such a thing work here? Like something pinned to the 3 most popular places, General, Chit chat, and Games?

Yes we could do that here but I dont know how much it would be used by new members.......

If you want to create a thread on Chit Chat and/or General TV, I can sticky it.

I have the Welcome Headers product installed for guests or for members who aren't logged in.

5.0.2 Boost registration and activity rates with more visible guest welcome and member status messages.

There's also an option to edit the message for people who haven't posted yet or don't post frequently. I could enable it and include a link to the thread(s). I would probably need to reinstall it because I don't see it in the control panel options.

Unfortunately 56.74% (43,130 out of 76,012) of our registered members have never made a single post. Maybe it would encourage more people to actively participate. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try it.

I noticed we had many more registrations when I turned off most options for guests. It's not easy to get people to post for the first time. Many people just want to lurk.
