I Love Lucy Episode Synopsis (w/images): “Lucy Wants A Paris Gown” & “I Love Lucy XMas Special”:
Because the holiday season is upon us, I thought I would post these. “Lucy Wants A Paris Gown”: Note: The reason why I am posting this is because I remember when TV Land showed one of their Merryathons in the early 2000s, they included this episode even though there are NO references to Christmas at all. I also remember this decision being criticized. Episode #147 (Syndicated episode #147) VHS: On the I Love Lucy Adventures In Europe Box Set, it is attached to “The Fox Hunt”, “Lucy Goes To Scotland”, “Paris At Last”, “Lucy Meets Charles Boyer”, “Lucy In The Swiss Alps.” DVD: On the Season 5 box set, it is attached to episodes #142-147 as well as the bonus features like flubs, guest cast information, special footage, original openings, production notes, the My Favorite Husband radio episode entitled “The Misunderstanding of The Black Eye” & Behind The Scenes Featurette: Excerpts From Laughs, Luck…and Lucy by Jess Oppenheimer. Air Date: Mon. 3/18/56 To see the transcript, click here https://subslikescript.com/series/I_...s_a_Paris_Gown |

“The I Love Lucy Christmas Special”:
Episode #164 (Not syndicated.) VHS, DVD & Laserdisc: On some tapes, it is attached to the Honeymooners episode entitled “Twas The Night Before Christmas” as well as then-lost footage of the characters celebrating Christmas at the end of the episode entitled “The Fur Coat.” This release has the title “TV Christmas Present.” DVD: On The I Love Lucy Christmas Special - Colorized For Kids of All Ages, it is attached to “Lucy’s Italian Movie” & “Lucy In Scotland.” On the I Love Lucy Colorized Collection box set, it is attached to “The Fashion Show”, “Lucy Visits Grauman’s”, “Lucy & John Wayne”, “Harpo Marx”, “The Dancing Star”, “Lucy Goes To Scotland”, “Lucy’s Italian Movie”, & “Lucy & Superman.” Note: While the episode entitled “Paris At Last” was colorized, it was shown AFTER this set was released and because of that, it’s not included. On the Season 6 box set, it is attached to episodes #161-166 as well as the bonus features like flubs, guest cast information, special footage, original openings, production notes, the My Favorite Husband radio episode entitled “Safety Drive”, audio commentary for “Lucy & Superman” by Keith Thideboux (who played Little Ricky), Steve Kay (who played Stevie Appelby) & Doris Singeleton (who played Carolyn/Lillian Appelby), & the 1990 inferior colorization of this episode (the flashbacks are edited out.) Air Date: Mon. 12/24/56 Note: This was never shown in syndication and was “lost” until 1989. The reasons: Lucy & Desi didn’t like it, it was XMas themed and because it was the 50s, they thought it would look weird if a station played it in let’s say August. Their mentality did not change even as stations did play XMas episodes in let’s say August. After they both died, Lucie, Desi Arnaz Jr & CBS honored fans wishes by showing this on XMas Eve 1989 which makes my screen cap of the summary from Bart Andrews outdated. Also on the TV Christmas Present, the sketch that was originally shown during the Fur Coat episode where all of the characters dressed as Santa Claus come into the old Ricardo apartment is shown. They greet each other and after they start singing Jingle Bells, they walk around the tree. You can see the “real” Santa pop up yet they somehow can’t see this so they become startled that there are now FIVE Santas. When they discover the “real” one, he disappears. They then say “Merry XMas.” |
