Default Why Dick Clark's New Year's Rocking Eve still exists? I haven't a clue why

Every December after Christmas I have never figured out why Dick Clark's New Year's Rocking Eve still exists and scores high ratings every New Year's Eve? I think ABC should've quit having the show when Dick Clark passed away and not had Ryan Seacrest replace him. Because the way I view it Ryan Seacrest ruined New Year's Rocking Eve and I think the only reason that he was chosen as the host was because of a lot of money and Ryan Seacrest hoped to expand his career as a TV show host. Nowadays if you watch Dick Clark's Rocking Eve today you'll notice that in the entertainment for the show they always have rap artists perform and the main performer is always a rap artist. It used to be in past years New Year's Rocking Eve had various artists such as Toby Keith Clint Black Usher Gwen Stefani and rock artists like Ozzy Osbourne and Alice Cooper would perform. But you'll find no various artists today. Second before the New Year's Eve ball drops all New Year's Rocking Eve has now are celebrity interviews which talk about family life and they should have celebrities talk about plans for the new year such as upcoming sitcoms and movies not family life. The only reason I think Dick Clark's New Year's Rocking Eve continues is so ABC can score high ratings and to get many people to watch it every year

I truly think Dick Clark's New Year's Rocking Eve should improve itself and give the show new life and a new formula. For one add various celebrities from sitcoms and even a few movie stars to the mix. Then after the New Year's Eve ball drop a various artist could perform and it would be a country artist or band then have a celebrity give a best wishes speech for the new year. How this special keeps surviving without Dick Clark is a mystery

I mainly think the main reason why this show was created was because Dick Clark wanted to celebrate New Year's Eve with a sassy style and he wanted to expand his horizons with another show besides American Bandstand. But I feel that ever since Dick Clark's death in the 2000's New Year's Rocking Eve has indeed gone downhill and it's also strange that Disney+ doesn't even show it especially since it's an ABC show and it seems to have disappeared from some ABC stations too

I also think Dick Clark wanted to begin a hobby of creating holiday shows but New Year's Rocking Eve seemed to be his only project other than American Bandstand and when the very first New Year's Rocking Eve show was launched Dick Clark was very proud of his new show but when I think even though this show was a success for him Dick Clark focused on launching Dick Clark Productions. But as I mentioned why Ryan Seacrest replaced Dick Clark as host of New Year's Rocking Eve is a mystery and I think he's the main and only reason the show has continued to score in ratings every New Year's Eve

I've always wondered how after his death in 2012, Dick Clark's name wasn't removed from New Year's Rockin' Eve just because Dick Clark died (if discontinuing New Year's Rockin' Eve was out of the question).

I too agree that Dick Clark's death hurt New Year's Rocking Eve and when Dick Clark passed away they should've had another celebrity like John O'Hurley replace Dick Clark instead of Ryan Seacrest. Because the way I view it Ryan took the job because I think he was best friends with Dick Clark and when he was sick one of Dick Clark's wishes was to have Ryan Seacrest take over his creation. Because Ryan Seacrest tries to put his name in anything you can name and it's like he wants to become king of TV even more than the late Regis Philbin. But I think New Year's Rocking Eve needs an image change and improve it's celebrity roster in the future

Dick Clark’s name is still in the title as a tribute to his legacy. You guys are harsh.

‘Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin’ Eve Scores Best Ratings In Four Years

Quote:
ABC’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest” once again bested the ball-dropping competition, averaging 18.8 million viewers during its key 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. time slot according to Nielsen ratings — up from last year‘s 17.9 million viewers.

That made “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” produced by Dick Clark Prods., again the No. 1 entertainment broadcast special of New Years Eve. The telecast peaked at midnight, when more than 30 million viewers tuned in to usher in the New Year as the ball dropped in Times Square. That was up from 29 million viewers last year.

According to ABC’s tabulation of Nielsen data, “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” beat CBS’ “New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash” by +255% and also CNN’s “New Year’s Eve Live” by an undisclosed amount.

All told, this year’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” ran for nearly eight hours — the longest in franchise history, since it launched as 1971 turned into 1972. The 2025-into-2026 marathon began at 8 p.m. ET and ended at 4 a.m. ET.

The event, hosted by Ryan Seacrest and Rita Ora from New York’s Times Square, featured 42 performers across New York, Las Vegas, Chicago, Puerto Rico and elsewhere. The show ended with a massive fireworks display along the Las Vegas strip.

The event also aired live across more than iHeartRadio stations nationwide, which it said reached 2 million listeners P6+ on Wednesday— a +9% increase from last year.

According to Talkwalker Social Content Ratings, “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2026” primetime was the No. 1 program across all of TV in total interactions and video views on New Year’s Eve. Also, per Listen First, Busta Rhymes’ performance of “Look At Me Now” as part of DJ Cassidy’s Pass The Mic Live! was the No. 1most watched clip across TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook for the day.

Absolutely. They're honoring his memory.

Also, when a title becomes a brand of sorts, that carries value and a built-in viewership over the years.
