Why did Dionne Warwick replace Jack Jones as the new singer of The Love Boat Theme? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I always wanted to know why in the last season of The Love Boat they had Dionne Warwick replace Jack Jones as the singer of The Love Boat theme song? Did Jack Jones retire or did he want to focus more on his singing career? Because if you listen to Dionne Warwick's version of The Love Boat Theme it has a disco/R&B feel to it and they should've had Dionne Warwick do a new version of the theme song using the same music that the Jack Jones version had

The theme song was changed because of a decision by the producers to bring in a new singer, Dionne Warwick, to update the show. This happened during the later seasons and was a common practice to try and refresh the program and give it new life.

That said - I am not a fan and much prefer the original!

I didn't even know that Dionne Warwick sang The Love Boat theme song until I saw one of the 80's The Love Boat episodes on METV and I was surprised that Dionne Warwick was able to pull off her own version of The Love Boat theme song. But why is this theme NOT on any of Dionne Warwick's greatest hits albums?

I only like the original version but yeah they sometimes do that to "freshen" up an older series. I think that song was especially made for the television show and thus wouldn't be included on her own albums where most songs would be her own hits/original songs.
