Default Were you as excited to go to college

as Jim and Margaret where for Betty to go?

I am rewatching the series and I am on the infamous Betty goes to College episode.

I am glad I went, but I sure didn't make a big hoopla over it the way those two do.

This video would have been about the time Betty was going. My theory is that all the old home ec people felt slighted because they didn't choose different degrees, so they hooked up with all the chemistry people and made the poisonous slop we have today. Its all about revenge

Yeah, they both just happened to know the dean, who was still there over twenty years later. And they were bound and determined that Betty was to go there and relive their time there.

It appeared from that episode that was a drive to another town, yet in a season 6 episode Jim and Margaret were hearing their alma mater tune playing in the distance, from their living room window. So just where was this college?

The magic of television?

Maybe, the bells from State were transferred to Springfield JC? Wait, was it bells or just a recording? Maybe, JC morphed into a satellite campus of State, and they started playing the music.

I forgot, Jim and Margaret went to State. Maybe Margaret and June were in the same Home Ec. classes.

Moreso. 3's Company premiered four months before I graduated high school, and I was certain that college was my first step toward that living arrangement.

I felt pressure to get accepted by nearby ND, where my brother started 4 years earlier, because I'd be able to commute to classes. If I didn't get in, I was uncertain of whether my dad would be upset at having to make travel arrangements for me to attend Purdue instead. So I was relieved.

I got a nice "congratulations" from my uncle when the acceptance letter arrived. That was the extent of the hoopla. My parents knew it would be an ever-increasing financial burden, even though there was some savings from my not living on-campus.

At that time, ND still did not have gender-blind admissions; they accepted a higher percentage of males because St. Mary's College was practically adjacent and all-women. So I realized that the women of ND would have their choices of suitors and my "chances" were greatly diminished. Coupled with the fact that the girl I had a secret crush on for 6 years in school went to college downstate, and I never saw her again in person past age 18.

Here is a photo of my crush, as an adult. When I first saw her in one of my classes in 1977, I was "gone" into pretty deep pining:

Why even watch the show if you are going to nitpick it?

On LITB, the always-understated Eddie Haskell commented that he was seriously considering Harvard University, the US Naval Academy and Stanford University as possible undergraduate schools he might attend after graduating from Mayfield High School.

I wonder what Eddie scored on the SAT’s and if Ward Cleaver wrote any letters of recommendation for Eddie to those schools?
