Default Let's Come Up with a Mister Ed TV Reunion Movie Made in 1987

Let’s say it’s 1987. Mister Ed reruns have been doing quite well for Nick at Nite and it’s decided to make a TV reunion movie of the show. You are in charge of it. Whether or not you think it should be made or just left alone is irrelevant. You’ve been hired for the job and you try your best with it. What’s your idea?

Here’s mine:

“Son of Mister Ed”
My first thought was to have Wilbur raising Ed’s son after the senior palomino died. But I don’t think Alan Young would sign onto a movie that was so grim. Especially since the series was so beloved by kids. So, I’m sure Mister Ed being gone, even though both the horse and voice actor had passed away by this point, would not be allowed. With that in mind, the movie would start with Ed (as voiced by someone other than the late Allan “Rocky” Lane) calling up Wilbur on the telephone. Wilbur and Carol still live in the same house but now they have two kids, a son and a daughter. Ed lives on a farm with his wife. It was the birth of Wilbur’s son that got Ed to move out, knowing that Wilbur wouldn’t be able to give him the same kind of attention as he did before. Plus, he was in love with a lady horse and so it just made sense for him to marry her (he wouldn’t dare just live in sin with her, lol) and be out of Wilbur’s hair. And so at some point between 1966 and 1987, depending on the age of Wilbur’s son, Ed moved out. Presently, Ed is calling his dear human friend to ask a favor. Ed, too, has a son, named Junior. However, he’s become a problem child and Ed and the Mrs. haven’t been able get through to him. So, he asks if Wilbur will take Junior in for a couple of weeks to straighten him out. Wilbur reluctantly agrees and the rest of the movie shows what happens there. While Ed’s wife can’t talk, his son is able to, so it’s business as usual for Wilbur and a talking horse.

There’s also a scene where Kay Addison stops by to visit. She’s a widow. It turns out that when Larry Keating died during the original show’s run, Roger died as well. In fact, that’s why she moved out. The house was just too big for her and so she moved into a smaller place elsewhere. Did she remarry? I don’t think so. She could have a boyfriend but I don’t know if an audience would want her to flaunt a new relationship around in this movie. So, her love life simply isn’t mentioned. Also not mentioned would be the whereabouts of the Kirkwoods. They moved away before the final season anyway, so there’s no absolute need to mention them.

I don’t know all of what happens except that Wilbur does straighten Junior out and returns him to Ed a changed horse. Wilbur is even hired by the owner of the farm in which Ed’s family resides to design a new barn for them of which he’s given plenty of ideas from his former pet. Ed is only seen at the beginning on the phone and at the end, also on the phone telling Wilbur about how Junior's doing much better and also giving him ideas on the new barn. Since it wouldn't be Bamboo Harvester nor Allan "Rocky" Lane, I wouldn't want Mister Ed to be in the film all that much.

Would Ed likely still be alive in 1987? I have no idea what the lifespan of a horse is. If it's unlikely, we'll just say that Ed's vocal chords somehow gave him a longer life, ha-ha. There. Explanation given!

So, what are your ideas for a TV reunion movie or do you have any ideas to add to my Son of Mister Ed TV movie?
