I am curious to how they can film the bedroom scenes. If Jack's room is in front of the girls' room, then how do they film them? How can the camera/audience see past the girls' room into Jack's room? Did they ever have 2 scenes shot consecutively between both rooms? If not then they probably just built whichever room they needed for the scene.

Wow, that's scary. I had the EXACT same question yesterday.
My question came from a dream I had. In this dream, they had invented this little round rod that you'd put on your head and it allowed you to travel through time. Where/When did I go? A taping of Three's Company, of course It's just like if I was sitting in the audience. It was an awesome feeling. And the next morning, I was asking myself the same question you just asked. |

In the DVD set interviews Powers the director, or Sunga or Burditt the producers, have said that the rooms in the apartment did form one set. Only someone who was in the studio audience could say for sure what that set looked like, and how the bedrooms could be seen. Perhaps the set rotated somehow. Or the bedroom scenes were show on monitors. I've seen a photo of an early-eighties sitcom audience area (not sure which show): large monitors were mounted close to the ceiling.

This is a very good question and something I never ever thought of, and I defintely see what you are saying, it's like a camera would have to make a turn to go from the girls room to see inside's jack's room

BTW, you've got color prints of the cast and crew at farewell? Neat! The left one was printed in Mann's book, but I've never seen the right one. How did you get them? -- And can you photo-post them separately? |

What they could've done is make the bathroom short, the girls' room longer than the bathroom, and then jacks room the longest. You never see the camer foloow anyone into a room, it's always a cut, so haveing all the rooms different length would allow the audience to see all 3 rooms.
Or they probably just attached a room for a scene that was needed, I'm sure they never had one continuous shoot between the bathroom and the 2 rooms. |

The walls are not real walls, they are removable. In season 7 episode "Diamond Jack" there was a scene in Jack's bedroom with all three of them and Jack sent Terry out to talk to the crooks and she asked " what do I talk about" and Jack responded "about 2 minutes". Right after that Terry walked out of the bedroom, look very closely at the girls' bedoom door, the empty space between the door and the metal hinges, I know its tiny, and look into the girls' bedroom there should be a wall there separating the 2 rooms, but you can see directly into Jack's bedroom and you can see Janet and him tying the bedsheets together. If anyone have this episode on dvd go back and check it out and you will see what I'am talking about.

Here's something that nobody picks up on, for season 7 and 8 there are no longer any scenes taking place in the apartment bathroom.
Here's from what I remember reading Chris Mann's book, season 1 was filmed at CBS soundstage while seasons 2-6 were at ABC and for seasons 7-8 they returned back to the CBS studios. I guess they forgot to bring along the bathtub and toilet, eh? |

If my memory is correct we do not get to see the interior of the bathroom. Janet is standing in the doorway throwing things at Jack who she blocked or threw out of the bathroom doorway. True we get a glimpse of the bathroom tile but I would not classify it as a bathroom scene.
