ABC Orders "Lucky 13" Hosted by Shaquille O’Neal and Gina Rodriguez
Shaquille O’Neal & Gina Rodriguez to Host ABC Game Show "Lucky 13" from Exec Producer Kevin Bacon & Studio 1
by Peter White May 3, 2024 ABC is adding to its collection of game shows. The network has picked up "Lucky 13", which will be hosted by Shaquille O’Neal and Gina Rodriguez and is exec produced by Kevin Bacon and Studio 1. It tests contestants’ knowledge with 13 true-or-false trivia questions but with a twist: Just how well do they know what they know … and, just as importantly, how well do they know what they don’t know? If they can accurately predict how successfully they’ve answered 13 questions, they could take home a $1M cash jackpot. It premieres on Thursday, July 18 at 9pm following the Season 6 premiere of "Press Your Luck" at 8pm. https://deadline.com/2024/05/shaquil...on-1235903385/ |

"Lucky 13" won’t Return for Season 2
by Rebecca Iannucci November 14, 2024 The ABC game show "Lucky 13", hosted by Shaquille O’Neal and Gina Rodriguez, has been cancelled after one season, TVLine has confirmed. According to our sister site Deadline, it did not generate enough ad revenue in its first season to warrant a Season 2 greenlight from producer Studio 1, which funded this summer’s batch of episodes. An ABC rep told the trade that "Lucky 13" could eventually return in some other form, but there are currently no plans for its continuation. https://tvline.com/news/lucky-13-can...ow-1235377364/ |

ABC Steps In to Pay "Lucky 13" Contestant Prizes after Shaquille O’Neal, Gina Rodriguez Game Show’s Messy Demise
by Jake Kanter February 5, 2025 In a highly unusual situation, ABC is preparing to foot a bill worth more than $460,000 to ensure that contestants on game show "Lucky 13" receive the winnings they are owed. Even though it is under no legal obligation to do so, the Disney-owned network is close to finalizing an agreement under which "Lucky 13" winners will receive their prize pots after the messy demise of the series hosted by Shaquille O’Neal and Gina Rodriguez. Lucky 13 Holdings and Studio 13 Entertainment, the special purpose companies Studio 1 set up to house "Lucky 13", effectively declared bankruptcy, leaving contractors — including hosts O’Neal and Rodriguez — out of pocket by at least $500,000. Studio 1 was also responsible for paying winnings to contestants, but Deadline understands that participants have not received their cash prizes amid the financial strife. https://deadline.com/2025/02/abc-pay...ow-1236278651/ |

"Lucky 13" Creditors Asked to Prove Debts Worth $1.2M after Game Show's Messy Demise
by Jake Kanter September 26, 2025 Suppliers that helped produce "Lucky 13" have been asked to provide evidence of their debts following the collapse of the UK production vehicles behind the ABC game show. "Lucky 13" was produced under a novel greenlight model, under which producer Studio 1 pre-funded the series in return for half of ABC’s ad revenue and 100% of product placement sales. But the venture went sideways when the revenue from 30-second ad spots fell well below projections, with ABC later canceling the series. Lucky 13 Holdings and Studio 13 Entertainment, the special-purpose companies set up to house "Lucky 13", were effectively declared bankrupt last year, and an administrator was appointed to wind up their affairs. They were run by Studio 1 CEO Adrian Woolfe. Millions of dollars were owed to financiers, the presenters, contestants and suppliers. ABC eventually stepped in to pay host fees and contestants at least $460,000 in winnings. Studio 13 Entertainment still owes unsecured creditors as much as £890,974 ($1.2 million), according to a filing by Menzies, the UK accountancy firm overseeing the administration process. They have now been asked to prove their debts by October 20, even though Menzies has said it is unlikely they will be repaid. These creditors include the likes of post-production house Suite (owed £113,264); Nest Productions (owed £163,914), a production services company; and media law firm Lee & Thompson (£27,000). SMC Speciality Finance, which helped fund "Lucky 13", was owed around $4.6M after the collapse, but pocketed the $881,994 in ABC ad revenue generated by the show. https://deadline.com/2025/09/lucky-1...ow-1236555688/ |
