Default Why America's Funniest Home Videos is still surviving? I'll never understand

When ABC debuted America's Funniest Home Videos in 1989 ABC was sure surprised that this show would be a monster hit and in ABC's eyes I think that they thought America's Funniest Home Videos would last only one season and get cancelled. But the critics were wrong about it and it indeed became a mega monster hit. But I can't understand how America's Funniest Home Videos is still a survivor after so long? I think why America's Funniest Home Videos became a hit is because I think Vin Di Bona saw a show that had to draw an audience that would make big money for ABC. But I think the reason why America's Funniest Home Videos became a hit for ABC was due to Bob Saget because I think the reason why they chose him to host the show was so he could add a second show in addition to Full House and to jumpstart his comedy career. But I think when Bob Saget left America's Funniest Home Videos the show's ratings became weak and ABC should've cancelled it when Bob left because without Bob Saget it couldn't survive. But when the show started jumping the shark was when John Fugelsang and Daisy Fuentes became the hosts and even the theme song was changed and this new America's Funniest Home Videos lacked the fun and awesomeness of the Bob Saget version. And I think once ABC saw how successful the show was they were trying to build a franchise of America's Funniest series of shows and they added World's Funniest Home Videos which was weak and with America's Funniest People ABC hoped the same magic would apply to America's Funniest People but it wasn't meant to be. How Alfonso Ribeiro got to become the current host of America's Funniest Home Videos is beyond me because I think ABC got him because they thought he would save the show and get bigger ratings. But I think this show will become the longest running show in ABC history in records

Daisy and John were definitely not popular hosts. But Tom Bergeron had a very long run after them. The World's Funniest you are referring to might be FOX's version which was hosted by James Brown, that did not air on ABC. While America's Funniest Home Videos has several decades of longevity and is the longest running entertainment show, lasting even longer on ABC are Good Morning America and 20/20 which I doubt ever get cancelled.

Why I also think America's Funniest Home Videos was meant to be a hit was because Vin Di Bona Productions was hoping for a successful hit after 1987's Animal Crack-Ups also aired on ABC. But they should've replaced Bob Saget with Tim Allen instead of John Fugelsang and why Daisy Fuentes got chosen to cohost with John was so she could expand her career beyond modeling and thanks to America's Funniest Home Videos Daisy Fuentes made a name for herself and went on to be Kohl's spokeswoman. But I think America's Funniest Home Videos started to jump the shark was when the home videos that people sent in were unappealing to watch. Like they always had obsessions with animal videos and some of those were odd like a elephant trying to open a car window at a drive in safari or a parrot who mimics commercials on TV and they should have people come up with original ideas for funniest home videos rather than recycle the same funny ideas. A second thing I noticed about America's Funniest Home Videos is when the winning person wins they say things like "I sent in this video of my dog dancing because he loves dancing" and they think these videos win the show most of the time. But I think America's Funniest Home Videos is here to stay because it draws a high fanbase of viewers

My wife and I still watch AFHV from time to time. We still find it funny. If we can't laugh at ourselves, who can we laugh at? I do find Alfonso annoying at times, but I found Tom annoying at times also.

I never have figured out why Bob Saget left America's Funniest Home Videos? Because without Bob Saget the show would've gone belly up and I think Bob Saget left America's Funniest Home Videos due to money issues that ABC wouldn't give him. But I think once Bob left the show America's Funniest Home Videos started getting weak ratings and as I mentioned ABC needed to get some fresh talent and that's why John Fugelsang and Daisy Fuentes became the hosts of America's Funniest Home Videos. But if you watch the show today or the past seasons the videos people send into the show are sometimes very unappealing like they will have a video of a child at a zoo crying over being scared of a goat and why people find that funny i'll never figure out and then they have videos of camping trips where people get scared going into a lake and it is very unappealing too in my eyes and they think that these videos win money on the show and what ABC should do is improve America's Funniest Home Videos to get more viewers

Why is AFV still on?

Three words:

Cheap to produce.

No more, no less. They will NOT beat “60 Minutes” in the ratings—so ABC does counter-programming, for those who despise 60M.

Once I was a member of a message board where someone commented about their favorite AFV episode: “I like the one where someone is hit in the groin.” That’s every single episode! Obviously the comment was sarcasm.

I cannot figure out on America's Funniest Home Videos how people think videos that are unappealing always seem to win the grand prize on the season finales of each show? Like when I would watch America's Funniest Home Videos they always had animal videos of children being frightened by an elephant sticking it's trunk out to say hello or a woman being scared of a lion at the zoo and I cannot see why those videos are funny. Another type of video that would always win the grand prize season finale are ones from birthday parties and weddings where they have an annoying singer sing and then fall down and since when do people find falling down funny? I mean America's Home Videos should've had videos that are really actually funny like a toddler trying to sing like Elvis or a dog who surfs or even a parrot who mimics commercials? Why I think when Bob Saget left I think America's Funniest Home Videos was trying to change it's image and with a new host and image ABC thought that they could score big ratings for the show

Hi Hawkee! Who do you think was the best host? I think it survived because proplr are funny. And AFHV is the original version. What do you think? BTW I think Alphonso is the best.
