Default Blu-ray and DVD Players

Where are the best brick and mortar stores to get a Blu Ray/DVD player, and what are brands that would be compatible with my LG TV (not a smart TV)? I remember Craig being a terrible brand for my parents, their Phillips has worked pretty well with their Sanyo TV. The Office Depot location my family has liked is closing, might have good sales on one but it couldn't be returned if necessary.

I don’t know what your shopping situation is like where you are, but I’d say the usual national suspects, like Walmart, Target, Best Buy. Or smaller local electronics places in your area I probably never heard of.

I finally have a DVD player I bought a few weeks ago along with my new computer. But who knows when I will be able to use it. My LG TV remote doesn't seem to have anything for switching from cable to DVDs. I sent LG a Facebook message. They have seen it but not responded yet. I have turned on my DVD player and opened the disc tray from the player. But the remote with it doesn't work either, I put in the batteries that came with it. Also, the cord for going to the TV doesn't fit tight, loosely fits in a few spots but can't squeeze it further. New technology shouldn't be this complicated! LG has since responded with a series of messages but it still doesn't work.

You can find plenty of Blu-ray and DVD players that have barely been used (with remote) at the local thrift stores for under $10.

I know you mentioned it's not a Smart TV, but isn't there a way to pull up an on-screen menu? Like for adjusting brightness and contrast? If you can get to a menu, maybe you can then switch to DVD playing.

Yes, that is my remote. Problem with the input button: the only options are HDM1 which I am already on and TV which just goes to static.

If you only have one HDMI port, order an HDMI splitter from Amazon, Walmart or whatever. That way, you can switch
between your cable box and DVD player (If your DVD player has an HDMI port on the back).

Does your TV have A/V input? You could connect your DVD player that way if does. I'm surprised there's only 1 HDMI port. Most TV's have at least 3. It could depend on the age of the TV as well. C.K. had a good idea with the splitter.
