Should the amount of time in days to store the thread/forum read times be changed?

I currently have it set to 14 days. I'm considering changing it to 31 days. I don't think it would have any negative impact on the server besides making the database a bit larger. It would just leave unread threads in bold for more days. You can already mark all boards read at the top of the page.

The amount of time in days to store the thread and forum read times. All threads or forums without posts in this many days will be considered read.

With "database read marking", the unread markers on threads and forums are persistent across forum sessions. If a user does not read a thread that is marked as unread, then that thread will remain unread every time the user visits the forum.

This setting allows you to force unread markers to switch to "read" after a so many days. This would be the amount of time after which the user probably has no interest in reading that thread and therefore does not need to know that it contains unread posts.

14 isnt bad as long as people come within that time,otherwise they lose the new threads when they click "New posts"

I use to be on 1 VBB site Todd that didnt seem to have a limit... I hadnt been there in over a year and when I clicked NEW POSTS I saw all of them back to a couple days after I was last there a year before..

I changed it to 31 days for now. It will give people more time to read threads before they are marked as read.
