LDCH Episode Synopsis (w/images): “Lucy Makes Room For Danny” & “Lucy Goes To Alaska”:
Note: These episodes were originally called “The (Ford) Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Show” and “The Westinghouse Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Show” Apparantly from the late 1960s to 1987 or so, these episodes did not see the light of day. It wasn’t until 1987 that these episodes saw the light of day when they were at first shown as TV specials called “We Love Lucy” (not to be confused with the three Reelz channel specials that dealt with Lucille Ball called “Lucille Ball: We Love Lucy” and also not to be confused with the umbrella title that these LDCH episodes were given when they were shown in syndication.) One of the specials was hosted by Betty White which included edited versions of “Lucy Goes To Alaska”, “Lucy Goes To Sun Valley” & “The Ricardos Go To Japan.” The second special was hosted by Lucie Arnaz. It includes “The Celebrity Next Door” and a few others that I don’t know. The third specials information as far as the host and the episodes are a mystery to me. Each episode contained at least one guest star. After these specials, these episodes were syndicated to TV stations under the umbrella title “We Love Lucy” and were badly edited with the second half-hour showing recap footage from the first half hour. Why the recap footage was needed is beyond my comprehension. But these episodes were still being shown in local syndication as late as 2006. Here’s proof https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eQadooktJI You will notice that there is a bug on the bottom right that says My13 Los Angeles. The station is KCOP and that logo indicates that it is affiliated with My Network TV which launched in 2006. These episodes were shown for the first time with the non sponsor advertisements in 1995 on N@N. “Lucy Makes Room For Danny”: Episode #188 (Syndicated episode #7) VHS: It’s the only episode on the volume. DVD: Attached to “Lucy Goes To Alaska”, “Lucy Wants A Career”, “Lucy’s Summer Vacation” & meet special people: Vivian Vance, Bill Frawley and Keith Thibodeaux. On the blu ray, it’s “Lucy Wins A Racehorse”, “Lucy Goes To Sun Valley”, Desilu/Westinghouse Sponsor Presentation & meet special people: Madelyn Pugh Davis & Bob Carroll Jr. (writers) On the blu ray, it’s attached to “Lucy Goes To Mexico”, “Lucy Goes To Mexico”, ‘Lucy Wants A Career”, “Lucy’s Summer Vacation” & Lucy & Desi Comedy Hour Promo #2. Air Date: Mon. 12/1/58 Note: This episode is similar to the I Love Lucy episode entitled “The Sublease.” Coincidentally, N@N ran both these episodes in the same night as part of their Lucille Ball Saturday Night block (10p-12a) in the late 90s where they I think falsely advertised that the block had ALL of Lucille Ball’s TV shows (I Love Lucy, The Lucy Show & “The Lucy Desi Comedy Hour (They didn’t have Here’s Lucy which depending on who you believe is either a different show than the Lucy Show or a continuation. I believe the former because the latter had a COMPLETELY different story if you know what I mean. The network also didn’t have Life With Lucy.) |

I thought I was the expert on this show, but you are incredible! Yes, there was a long period that the show was not seen. As a little boy CBS aired the series in the summer starting 1962 and was then coined "The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" ever since. I hate the fact the editing is horrible especially the Tallullah-episode cutting out the tiny scene of her being allergic to strawberries which was vital to the plot of the 2nd to last scene!

Yes, the Tallulah episode was restored to original length on the Blu Ray. She's hilarious.
The Danny Thomas episode is also really funny. It's interesting to see these episodes with the cast commercial at the end. Oh, and yes, those Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour versions have bounced around for years after their original run. The only one that was restored to original length on DVD was the Ann Sothern one, which is the only one I really dislike. |
