After hearing about the death of Lani O'Grady from "Eight is Enough" at 46, I started thinking about how cursed that show has become. Besides her, you also had the death of Diana Hyland who played the mom after the first four episodes; Susan Richardson who played Abbey was put in a mental institution after claiming to have been kidnapped by white slavery in Korea; Adam Rich who played Nicholas was arrested numerous times for drugs and robbery; as were many of the other cast members over the years.
Was it the time period of the late seventies that attributed to this or a combination of home life and too much too soon ? Everyone knows about "Diff'rent Strokes" and "Saturday Night Live". Are there any others ? |

Actually I think I screwed up. Susan Richardson played Susan. Betty Buckley played Abbey.

I dont have a cursed show but I do have a "cursed" event. Its yhe annual Shenandoah
Apple Bloosom Festival in Winchester, Virginia. For some reason, a lot of the Grand Marshalls over the faced some kind a problem ( both big and small ) examples.... 1982: Frank Bonner ( WKRP was cancelled weeks after he did the parade ) 1983: John James-Dynasty ( death in the family weeks after bloom ) 1984: anson Williams ( Happy Days didnt last that much longer) 1985: Robert Wagner ( remember when Samatha Smith was killed in that plane crash , it happened not long after he was in Winchester) 1987: Boss Hogg-Dukes ( learned he had cancer , which he would die from soon after his time as Grand Marshall ) 1988: Gary Coleman ( need I say more ) 1989: Jerry Mathers ( health problems ) 1990: Gary Collins ( Hour Magazine ended soon after ) 1993: Mary Tyler Moore ( health problems ) 1997: Al Roker ( death in the family days he was to come to the event ) also...Lucy ( just after the divorce with Desi), Bing Crosby ( just after the death of his wife ) and ED Sullivan ( just before his car crash ) despite the fact the event still draws 250,000 every year, they are just now having trouble getting stars to show up for the bloom. |

I forgot a few...
Joan Van Ark ( 1997 ) was in good health til she came to town. She came down with a really bad cold. Doris Roberts ( 1980 ) if I can remember correctly it was a death in family . Just beofre the event. She didnt come. Hal Linden ( 1986 ) The following week NBC cancelled Blackes Magic Katie Couric ( 1994 ) wasnt too long after her husband learned he had cancer. Died a few years back. Susan Lucci from All My Children, failed to win her emmy that year. and 1962 Patsy Cline. Did a big show for the bloom. Dead within a year. For you country music trivia fans. Winchester, VA is Patsy Cline's hometown. |

There was a sitcom called True Colors that I really enjoyed but I think it was cursed. It ran from 1990 to 1992 but it certainly should have lasted longer. The show was about a black man named Ron with two sons getting married to a white woman named Ellen with one daughter and a hard to please mother. Actor Frankie Faison who played the part of Ron quit after the first season and was replaced by Cleavon Little. Nancy Walker who played Ellens mother on the show passed away during the second season. Soon after that Cleavon Little passed away. So after a cast change and two deaths True Colors was cancelled.

It does sound like the "Eight is Enough" kids had their fare share of trouble. Don't forget that Mark Hamill, who played David in the pilot, had to drop out of the show a couple of weeks before they started shooting the regular episodes, because a car accident left his face pretty smashed up. Of course, he also did a little thing called "Star Wars", so he can't be that cursed.
BTW, Diana Hyland, who played Joan, was battling cancer before the series began. |

I remember True Colors I was upset when the first father quit. Then again when Nancy Walker and Cleavon Little died those two I grew up watching on Tv and Movies. On the cursed part the show I'm thinking about is The Single Guy in the last season some of the cast too much sarcastic, mean, and annoying like Mina Win or something her name is. At first I liked her then at the end she started to get on my nerves.

Don't feel too bad for Ming-Na Wen from "The Single Guy". She joined the cast of a little show called "ER".
I think she just goes by Ming-Na now.
