TV Carnie Wilson to host GSN's 'The Newlywed Game'

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Here comes the next "Newlywed Game" host.

Carnie Wilson, the Wilson Phillips singer who hosted her own talk show and appeared on VH1's "Celebrity Fit Club," is slated to host 40 episodes of a new GSN edition of the show where newly married couples answer questions to find out how well they know each other.

The original show, hosted by Bob Eubanks, debuted in 1966 on ABC, and went on to span over 20 years on the air.

"I've always loved game shows," said the 40-year-old Wilson, who began co-hosting the "GSN Live" interactive game show last year. "My personality and energy is perfect for something like this. First of all, I'm married, and I loved watching 'The Newlywed Game' when I was younger. I watched it all the time. I always hoped the couples would start fighting."

The new edition of "The Newlywed Game" premieres April 6. It will feature an updated set and a new bonus round with couples who have remained married since appearing on the show.

I wish Carnie the best but this show will never be the same without Bob Eubanks!!

I'm sure that Bob would do it if they asked. I just saw him doing commentary on his favorite game show moments on a GSN show a couple of moths ago. Does anyone know what else he's doing these days?

The last Bob Eubanks version lasted from 1997 to 1999.

i agree - i'm tired of them making every new game show look the same with the dark stage look, it just doesn't work

and could never be the same without Bob.

I never figured out how or why GSN decided to revive The Newlywed Game in 2009 in the first place? The only logical answer is because I think GSN wanted to make revivals of game show favorites to get strong ratings. And why they chose Carnie Wilson to host The Newlywed Game is somewhat of a mystery that will forever take long to solve. When I was waiting for a GSN show to start "I think it was The Chase" they had a rerun of Carnie Wilson's The Newlywed Game and I couldn't believe how GSN ruined a classic show and as a Wilson Phillips fan I just couldn't see Carnie Wilson hosting The Newlywed Game because Carnie is my favorite Wilson Phillips singer I think she lacked the talent of game shows hosting. It's no secret why Sherri Shepherd replaced Carnie Wilson as The Newlywed Game's new host the ratings soared but even Sherri was annoying as host too. Why I think caused GSN's The Newlywed Game to jump the shark was Sherri Shepherd but also when they did celebrity episodes with stars such as Wink and Sandy Martindale and Marilyn and Monty Hall and that's why it was cancelled. But seeing how The Newlywed Game worked for GSN they would launch their own dating/romance game shows such as Love Triangle with Wendy Williams and the popular Baggage with the late Jerry Springer. But it may be years before we see another revival of The Newlywed Game happen
