Default Looney Tunes Coming To Tubi In August

METV better up their game with all the Looney Tunes they are refusing to show. Won't be suprised to see TUBITV show some of the ones METV is refusing to play (this is not including the censored 11) . Will also be interesting to see if Tubi will use the cartoons that have been restored for Blu-ray.

I'm guessing Tubi will only have access to what WB allows them to have. They've had Tom and Jerry for the past several months, and the selection is pretty limited, at least in terms of the original H-B shorts. (Most of the Deitch and Jones shorts seem to be there.)

So who knows what WB will let them have? Will it be the full selection that was on HBO Max? More? I'm hoping it's *at least* what we got on HBO Max, but I guess we'll know for sure on Friday.

Personally, I'm glad they're finally going to be streaming again, in any form. It's frankly embarrassing they're not on HBO Max anymore. It's Warner Bros. own streaming service!

Appears that Loiney Tunes on TubiTV is the exact same ones METV and METV Toons are currently showing. Was hoping Warner Brothers would give TUBITV greater access to the vault. So there is still over 100 classic Looney Tunes being censored. Unacceptable!

It now seems pretty clear that if Warner doesn't want a cartoon to be shown, it will be withheld.

And it's way more than the censored 11. And H-B? Maybe some other division is making the decisions, but they're way more "loose" with those.

What about other studios, like Universal? I think practically anything goes with the Lantz cartoons.

Not counting Bosko and Buddy cartoons from the 1930s, there are around 140 withheld Warner cartoons. Approx. 120 of them are from the 1930s and 1940s.

The list of looney tunes on tubi looks to be more extensive than what was available on HBOmax. Yet as many has mentions many cartoons are missing. Maybe some will be added later.

I've watched the first 15 "episodes" which consist of 3 cartoon per "episode ". Most of the cartoons I've never seen before even through HBOmax. MeTV and MeTV Toons hasn't put on a lot of older Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies.

I haven't seen any Bosko cartoons but there are a few cartoons featuring Beans. I didn't see any of the Private Snafu cartoons. The Speedy Gonzalez cartoons are ones with Daffy Duck so there isn't a lot of derogatory depictions of Mexicans in those. There were a couple cartoons that had brief stereotypes one on Jews and and 3 or 4 on Native Americans.

From looking at the total list there are 788 cartoon available.

I'm glad that Tubi has these available. Maybe they'll get access to the Popeye catalog that was on HBOmax.

I'm very impressed with the selection on Tubi. Given the rather sparse MGM selection, I was afraid have my hopes high. But this blows what HBO Max *ever* had out of the water! Yes, there aren't the Censored Eleven or the unofficial more recent additions to the list (like Fresh Hare, A Feather in His Hare, etc), but I didn't expect there to be. Bosko was likely withheld for similar reasons. Not quite sure why Buddy was withheld, but I don't think those shorts were ever included on HBO Max anyway.

Bottom line, though: This is great. Would I liked to have seen them all? Of course. But to have around 800 of the 1000 WB shorts.....that's pretty great. And yes, they do appear to be using the Blu-Ray remastered prints; I watched Baby Bottleneck and Book Revue and they're *beautiful* (and also unedited). For the prints that haven't been done yet, they appear to be using the old Turner "dubbed versions," which is fine with me.

Great job, Tubi!

Mike I agree with you for the most part. Baby Bottleneck is edited where the baby alligator tries to feed off the mother pig. Apparently the editor is when the pig says "Don't touch that dial" which back when the catoon was created was deemed to suggestive. I read that the edit is lost. Also on "Don't Look Now" there is a lost edit where the devil tell the girl bear to "sit on the tack" which was meant to be the boy bear she was sitting near. Again, too suggestive for when the cartoon was made.

Plus some of the cartoons have not been restored but still very viewable. By the way there are 789 cartoon not 788. I miscounted when listing on my post.

I do wonder how this collection will affect MeTV Toons setting up a free streaming channel/service. Assuming that service is to consist of cartoons not shown on MeTV Toons over the air channel.

There's a fair amount of offensive content in Book Revue--and it moves so quick, you can miss some of it.

The part MeTV eventually censored involves the wolf and Daffy running thru the Uncle Tom's Cabin book, and Daffy running out allegedly dressed as a slave woman.
