Default Carroll O'Connor said he was ''relieved'' when his series was cancelled. Here's why

"If I played King Lear," said the actor, "they'd see Archie Bunker in my performance."

I don't know what would have happened in the episode, but they really should have given the show a proper finale (I'm referring to the end of ABP). After 13 seasons as Archie Bunker, I think Carroll O'Connor and the fans deserved that.

Speaking of Mike and Gloria, I don't like that they separated in order to give Sally Struthers the spin-off, Gloria. I know couples break up or get divorced all the time and that it's realistic but that doesn't mean that I like it, ESPECIALLY the reason they gave Mike for leaving her.

Sally said they had no choice because Rob had no interest in coming back. Since she was the only one who wanted to come back they had to close out his character in some way that didnt involve death lol

Wasn't the series supposed to be cancelled after season 8? CBS backpaddled and added one more season. With the kids gone they brought in Stephanie. I think this extra season was a mistake and they should have went right into Archie Bunker's place after season 8. Although adding Stephanie in season 9 gave Archie Bunker's Place a character living in the house with Archie so in the long run it may have worked out.

According to Wikipedia, Carrol O'Connor was upset that CBS did not renew Archie Bunker's Place for a 5th season, and he vowed to never work on a CBS show again.

What a liar. If he hated it so badly, then why did he continue after the original cast all left? And why did he try to get Lear to produce a new show featuring Archie in the late 1990’s and Lear refused?

And in the late 1990’s he tried to get a new series with Archie in the 1990’s and Lear said nope.
