Default Your Money or Your Life…hands down the worst episode of Season 1

One of the biggest problems this show faced was that it was too close to the original series, George and Mildred. Nearly every script used for this show came directly from George and Mildred damn near verbatim. Very rarely did you see the writers shake things up and deviate from the original script…and the episode “Your Money or Your Life” happened to be one of those instances. You’d think that since the writers decided to redo the entire plot for this episode to better suit the American counterparts, it would be one of the strongest episodes in the entire series, right? Well, the writers bungled this one BADLY. The plot for this episode is so boring and lame. Mr. Roper’s uncle has died and The Ropers have decided to hold the post-funeral repast at their new home. At the repast, the widow of Mr. Roper’s uncle urges Mrs. Roper to try and talk Mr. Roper into getting life insurance. After Mr. Roper is successfully persuaded by Mrs. Roper, the two meet with Jeffrey to discuss taking out a life insurance policy. Mr. Roper is then sent to get a physical and once he returns home from the doctor’s, he begins to fear that he didn’t pass his physical and that his days on Earth are numbered. Long story short, Mrs. Roper exploits Mr. Roper’s hypochondria by trying to trick him into having sex with her to “cure his illness”, but her attempts are thwarted when Jeffrey stops by and informs Mr. Roper that he’s passed his physical. That’s it. That’s what the whole episode is about. What a snooze fest. There is absolutely nothing interesting or entertaining about Mr. Roper laying around, thinking that he’s going to croak. This episode doesn’t hold a candle to the original episode from George and Mildred, which revolved around Mr. Roper canceling his life insurance policy because he fears that Mrs. Roper’s going to kill him for his insurance money.

I can see why no one wanted to watch this show in the 2nd season. The writers simply didn’t care.
