I roll up my pennies, nickels and dimes and take them to the bank at the end/beginning of the year. I use my quarters for small purchases or I bring them to small businesses near me who always need them.

My father gave me this a long time ago... this collection features the steel penny.

There was a copper shortage during WWII so they temporarily minted steel pennies.

Since practically all vending machines don't accept pennies anyway, they could have been produced in plastic for recent years. It would have made sense, though banks likely would not have liked the eventual mixing of plastic coins with older metal ones. And of course Coinstar machines would reject them.

I don't know about plastic pennies. If it is worn down, somebody might mistake them for a missing shirt buttons

I love pennies, I love piggy banks. Lately I've been finding a lot more pennies just on the ground and even in the street. I check to see that no cars are coming and go pick them up. Yesterday I found 65 cents in the street. But usually it's pennies.

I only pick up pennies I find outside if they are heads up, I heard heads up pennies are good luck. I make a wish and pick it up. I leave the tails up pennies.
