Here honey, Ward said handing June the last of the dinner dishes. Thank You, she said slipping the dishes into the dishwater. Noticing she was preoccupied he asked, Okay honey, what's on your mind? What do you mean? I mean you were quiet at dinner and you look lost. I was listening to you and Beaver talk about his football game. Well, you didn't listen very well because we talking about his baseball game. Football, baseball, what's the difference? He laughed, there's a big difference. She turned around drying her hands, okay, you win. I just miss Wally. We haven't heard from him this week. Well honey, he's busy with studying being that finals are coming up in the next few weeks and I'm sure he's been seeing alot of Maryellen too. Wally left home and now Beaver's growing up and dating, everything is happening too fast. He put his arms around her waist and said, well, this could be a good thing. How? I have been looking forward to getting you all to myself. Ward, we are talking about our children. Our grown children, who are living their own lives, he added. Beaver isn't grown, he just turned 17 a month ago. He kissed her softly, I think you know what I mean darlin'. Hugging him tight, I just miss him and would love to hear his voice. So just call him baby, he said in a soft tone. Oh he'll just think I'm fussing over him. He began kissing her neck, well you can fuss over me. After a few moments of kissing as though they were two teenagers in love, she pulled away from him. Ward, we can't do this in the kitchen. I don't see why not, we are alone, he said patting her bottom. Ward, I'm serious. He laughed softly as he nuzzled her neck and said, so am I. Suddenly he picked her up and threw her over his shoulder, carrying her out of the kitchen. Ward Cleaver, you put me down this instant!! She yelled hitting him with dishtowel. I have to do the dishes! I thi nk the dishes can wait. As he got half way up the stairs, the door shut. Did we come at a bad time? Wally! June shouted. Ward, put me down. Ward slowly put her down. Didn't I teach you boys to knock? I thought you meant just the bedroom door. Nevermind that! June went up to him and hugged him. Oh I missed you so much! Mom, it hasn't been a week! Ward shook his head and grinned at Wally, you never was much for timing. Wally turned red with embarassment. They exchanged greetings with Maryellen and they all went into the livingroom.
So son, what brings you by? Ward asked. Well, Wally began, we were...just then the door slammed. Beaver! June shouted, why must you slam that door? Sorry mom. Hi Wally and Maryellen. Hey Beav! Wally said shaking his hand. I'm glad you showed up, I have something to tell all of you. Maryellen and I had dinner tonight and I asked her to marry me, he said taking her hand. She said yes. Wally! June said in a desperate voice. You are only 20 years old and you are still in school and so is Maryellen. Why the rush? Mom, he jumped in, I also have a good job and I saved every bit of money that I have earned thanks to you and dad supporting me until graduation so I have money for a down payment on a nice home for us. we will be fine. Ward sat there taking every word in and said, I think you have it all thought out son, but are you sure you are ready for marriage? It is more then just being financially ready, its about commitment and taking care of Maryellen in everyway. I know dad, I had a good teacher, he added holding his hand out to him. Ward looked at June and Wally and got up and hugged him. Thanks son and congratulations. I'm proud of you. Thanks dad. Gee, look at the mush, Beaver said. June rubbed her head, Oh Beaver. Ward sat back down beside June and took her hand, he's going to be just fine babe. June looked at Maryellen, honey, do your parents know? Yes Mrs. Cleaver, In fact Wally asked my father for my hand. Ward pointed at him with a smile, that's my boy. They approve? Of course mom, Wally answered. I have nothing against Maryellen, in fact, I think she's the one for you, but I still feel it's too soon. Gee mom, Beaver said. Are you telling him that he can't get married? June started to speak when Wally jumped in, I don't need her permission, he said in a firm tone. I'm a grown man and the sooner she accepts that, the easier it will be on all of us. I'm sorry Wally, she said fighting back the tears with her voice breaking up, please excuse me, I have dishes to do. June got up and left the room. Wally, Maryellen said in a shocked tone. Go after her. Maryellen? Ward stepped in, honey can you go check on June while I talk to Wally. Sure, Mr. Cleaver. Uh oh Wally, dad's gonna clobber you. Beaver! Go upstairs! He shouted. Actually, I was gonna get some money and go to the movies with Larry. Very Well. Ward lead Wally to the den. Sit down Wally. Wally sat down, look dad...no, Wally let me get this out. I'm fine with you getting married, but you had no business getting that mad at your mother. Dad, I didn't mean to make her cry, but it needed to be said. Look son, its not what you said, but how you said it and the tone you used. You could have used more tact. You don't know this, but your mother has been going through a tough time with you leaving home and now Beaver geting older and more independant, I need you both to be more understanding and sympathtic. I'm afraid I'm going to have to insist on that. Okay dad, I'll go talk to her. he got up and left the room. Wally walked into the kitchen and found Maryellen comforting June. Hey honey, can you leave us alone a minute? Sure Wally. Thanks babe, he said kissing her. June was sitting on the kitchen stool wiping her eyes. Mom, he said putting his arm around her shoulder, I'm sorry for what I said. I just lost my temper and didn't realize how hard this is for you. It's all just happening so fast, she said sobbing into his chest. I know,he said hugging her, I'm sorry. Everything is going to be ok mom, I promise, he said softly. Don't cry like this please. You and dad did a hell of a job raising us and I want to thank you for that, but I need to take it from here. June clenched on to him tightly, I know, but its so hard for me to know that you don't need me anymore, she continued to cry hard. oh mom, he said in a soothing voice, I'll always need you, just in a different way. He took her by the hand and lead her to the table and sat her down. I want you to think about something,he said holding her hand. You know how you can't sleep when dad is out of town? Yes, she said shaking her head. Well, that's how it is for me. I love Maryellen so much that I can't live without her anymore. Saying goodbye at the end of our nights gets tougher everytime. Being the way she was raised, I do the right thing and leave when I'm supposed to. June wiped away another tear, and we raised you to be a gentleman so I'm glad to hear that. So you're not marrying her because you are getting impatient and just wanting to get her into bed? No, he said frowning, I respect her and love her more then that. Dad has taught me very well on how to treat a lady. June smiled, I know he has. Helping her up he said, we must get going, we both having early classes tomorrow. They walked out hand and hand. Later that night, Ward and June had just made love and were lying in each others arms. June looked up from Ward's chest to look at the clock. Exhailing in frustration she layed her head back down. What's wrong baby? He asked as he stroked through her hair. It's after nine and Beaver's not home yet. Honey, we raised his curfew to ten, remember? Yes I suppose, she said quietly. Hey, he said caressing the lower part of her back, I never did ask you if you and Maryellen had a nice visit. Yes we did, but I can't talk about this wedding right now. Okay baby, I'm sorry. June latched on to him tighter, can you just hold me closer? Sure honey, he said pulling her closer and kissing her forehead. You're not going to cry again are you? She answered with a shrug while tears began to stream down onto his chest. He lifted her chin and looked at her, Oh darlin',he whispered in a soothing voice, don't cry. A few weeks before the wedding, preparations were being finalized with the help of June and Mrs. Rogers who were weeping more often with the upcoming wedding of their children. Wally had asked Beaver to be his best man along with Eddie. Beaver opened the door. Hi Wally. Hey Beav. Where's mom? She and dad are upstairs. Okay, thanks. He started up the stairs when Beaver said, they have been up there for a long time. Wally stopped and turned around. How long? He asked afraid of the answer. Beaver shrugged, since after breakfast. Wally looked at his watch, Geez! It's after twelve! They must be hanging pictures. Why do you say that? He asked frowning. Because when I walked by, it sounded like they were pounding on the walls. Wally loosened his tie nervously and walked to the door, look, he said just ask mom to call me. I gotta go. Just then June came downstairs buttoning the top of her dress. Oh brother,Wally said under his breath. What's wrong Wally, Beaver asked, you like you're going to puke. Honey, what's wrong? Everything alright? Yes mom. I just came by to see how the plans are coming and to see if I can take you out to lunch, just the two of us. Oh honey, I can't today, how about tomorrow? Sure, he shrugged. Hi son, Ward came down putting his shirt on. Hi dad, Wally said shaking his head knowing his parents weren't hanging pictures as Beaver thought. Wally started to smile as he turned red, dad, can I see you in the den alone? Sure. They walked in and Ward closed the door. You look as though you are about to bust a seam, what's wrong with you? Have you had the talk with Beaver yet? The talk? Ward asked confused. You know dad, about what you and mom just got done doing. How do you know that?Wally told Ward what Beaver had told him. Ward sat down and busted out laughing. I guess I should talk to him. Dad, you talked to me about sex when I was twelve. Well, that's because you came to me with questions and I was waiting for Beaver to come to me. Well, he is dating now so maybe you should have that talk. He can't go on thinking that people hang pictures during marriage, Wally said busting out laughing. what's going on in here? June asked as she stuck her head in the door. Nothing baby, Ward said kissing her. Well, I would like a laugh, why not tell me? You don't want to know mom. Honey, Wally just told me a dirty joke and he's not going to repeat it in front of you because you don't like those jokes. Right Wally? Right dad, Wally said trying to hold back his laughter. Come on now honey, we are still talking so be a good girl and leave us alone? He asked patting her backside. Oh okay, she said shaking her head and shutting the door. Whew, said Ward, your mother would never let me touch her again if she knew what we were talking about. they continued to laugh. The day of the wedding finally approached. Honey, you doing okay in there? Ward yelled for June in the bathroom. Yes, but I need you to zip up my dress. She came out in a royal blue silk dress. Wow! You look radient. Thank You she smiled. You know,he said zipping her dress, the groom's mother isn't supposed to be the most beautiful woman in the room. Oh Ward, I won't be, Maryellen will be amazing. I agree, he said pulling her close, but even she can't hold a candle to you, he added softly. She closed her eyes, please don't make me cry. Okay honey, he said kissing her. What do you say we check on Wally? I think that is a good idea, she said taking his hand. Come in,Wally hollered. Hi son. June saw him and burst into tears, you look so handsome. Oh mom, don't start crying again. I swear, he said laughing between you and Mrs. Rogers, I can't believe we arn't flooded with a river. Ward laughed, boy isn't that the truth? Wally, June said taking his hand, I'm very proud to be your mother and I want you to know that I wish you and Maryellen the very best and that I love you both very much. I love you too mom, he said with a smile. I want you to remember that I'll always be here if you need me. I know you are a grown man, she said tearing up, But you will always be my baby. And I want you to know that I always had the best mom in the world and I thank you for loving me. You will always be the first woman that I have ever loved and one that I will never stop loving, he said as he embraced her. Ward watched them with a smile. June looked up at him and kissed him, the next time I kiss you, you will be a married man, she said as she ran her fingers through his hair. Sweetheart, Ward said, can you leave Wally and I alone for a few minutes. Of course, she said with a smile, I need to go fix my make up. She turned around at the door. I love you honey. I love you too mom. Have a seat son. Are you nervous? Some, he said shaking his leg. I just don't want to screw up my lines. You mean vows, Ward said with a grin. Yeah, vows. Hey dad, how is my bride holding up? From what her father says, just fine. I'm nervous about tonight. Really? You? i thought you uh...I have, but this is different, this time I''m madly in love and Maryellen is new at this. Oh yes, Ward nodded and you are afraid of hurting her. Yeah, Wally said shaking his head. That's natural, I was concerned about that with your mother. I just have this to say, he added. Be extremly gentle, patient and loving with her tonight because you can never get this night back and she can never get her purity back and that means the world to a woman. Wow, dad, that's deep. That's also the truth. From the moment you say I do, you are to take care of her not just financially, but emotionally as well. Always treat her respect and love and always protect her. Treat her as though she is your princess and later in the years like she was your queen. Wally looked at him with respect, yes sir. They embraced. I guess we better get downstairs. I'm proud of you my son,Ward said looking at him with pride. Thanks dad. I'm proud to be your son. In fact, my first born son will have your name. That means alot to me. Wally and Maryellen exchanged vows and as they kissed, June and Mrs. Rogers dried their eyes while there husbands held them close. I hope you all enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it! |

The only comment I have is: Space out the lines a bit. Have a more dialog format setting. It would be easier to read.
